    Not too bad. Try their Fuji Volcano Roll!!!!!!!

    I like this sushi place. The service isn't very friendly, and don't expect prompt refills, but the food is good. I like the fuji rolls, and the bomb rolls. I also like their oyster appetizer and salad. It's a good sushi place to go to in a group as they can easily accomodate them. A great place to eat before or after a movie at the AMC Mercado 20.

    I'm not surprised at all with the low rating that pretty much everyone else has given this sad excuse for a Japanese sushi restaurant. Alot of their "sushi" is deep fried or baked. If you're lucky enough to order the non-fried or baked sushi, you'll unfortunately find out why alot of their sushi is cooked. Today, their fish didn't look or taste fresh at all. The sushi is also way over priced, if you pay more than 10 bucks on a sushi roll, you would expect it to be big enough that you would be able to take it home. I give this place 2 stars because their "spicy" was actually spicy. To sum up...Meh.

    YASBS Yet Another Sushi Boat Sushiya. Dropped by for lunch on a weekend. It was fairly unbusy so the sushi on the boats were fairly uninspired. The menu of rolls available however were much more exciting. Wife enjoyed the soba (her current favorite dish), the beef Udon I ordered was hot, and hit the spot, though quite bland (Is udon supposed to be so bland?) Four year olds are interested in floating boats with food on them. Good thing he's not in arms reach of them.

    This is the first review I've written for yelp, and quite honestly, I'm a little disappointed in the fact that it has to be a negative one. Upon first arriving with two other friends, we were greeted by an unfriendly waitress who whisked us off into a section unoccupied. She didn't even specify where to sit and didn't even bother to look our direction. No one had a chance to even open the menu before our waitress came back and asked what we wanted to drink. How we were supposed to know what we wanted if we weren't even given a chance to see what the had? We ordered water and within 30 seconds, the waitress basically threw our three glasses on the table. We didn't have much time to look at the menu before she was back. She was really persistent and upset when my friend, who was first to order, didn't know what to get. Luckily, all three of us looked at the menu outside before we went so we kind of had an idea. I ordered a Chicken Terriyaki Bento Box. Overall, the chicken was too chewy, but it wasn't too horrible For the duration of the meal, our waitress only check on us once. During that time, she was sitting with about 4 other people in the restaurant eating. EATING DURING OUR MEAL WITH HER HANDS. Luckily we weren't being served anything else. When it came time for the check, she was also very, very persistent. She kept hovering over us while we sorted out what to pay. What makes matters worse is I've felt continuously sick from the moment I ate there yesterday at around 4:00pm. I've had a terrible stomach ache. Either way, I would definitely NOT recommend this place to eat for their extremely pushy and unfriendly staff, rather bland food, and pushiness.

    The only reason this place gets one star is because if you pick zero, you can't write a review. The sushi is gross! I love sushi and am always looking for a new sushi spot so we tried this one out. Big mistake! The service is horrible. Slow and rude! The sushi has carrots in it? I've never had sushi rolls with hard carrot sticks. The sushi did not taste fresh. If you're looking for good sushi..walk right by this place.

    Maybe because I haven't tried everything on the menu, yet, to understand why Yo-Yo didn't get up to a 4-star review. I have known Yo-Yo for less than a month, but have visited 5 times, and have found it to be place that seems to make everyone in my family satisfied. Yo-yo has the BEST salmon skin hand roll ever. The skin was grilled to a crispy crunch that immediately melts in your mouth. This is an absolute must for the skin to lose its fishy taste and smell. 5-star Beef Tataki is probably Yo-yo's specialty. I don't ever order meat in a sushi restaurant, but being the carnivorous me, the picture in the menu looked so red and raw, that I have to order it. And glad I did. It was probably sliced from a filet mignon. The meat was seared raw, then cooked in lemon juice and with a bit of soy sashi. The sashimi was sliced too thin, and at times not fresh (Send those back!!!) Definately had caused Yo-Yo a star from my former 4-star rating. We ordered "made your own" hand roll soft shell crab, but got more of a California hand roll version. Yo-yo charged us $7.99 for EACH roll. Incredibly expensive for a hand roll full with mayonaise and more-less immitation crab crabmeat. We have tried different sushi roll each time we came and was not disappoint, but was not blown away either. But, over all, it has everything to please everyone. The service was "hunt-me-down". 2-star

    didn't even know this place existed, but me and my friends had just finished watching Pirates 3 so we stopped in for dinner. it is your typical "fast food" sushi joint. but i was surprised that the food was as good as it was. i had a dragon roll, rainbow roll, and hamachi sashimi. i always get these things at any japanese restaurant i go to. it wasn't the best i've had, but it was decent and at the same time not terribly expensive. one thing i can say was that their servings of udon and ramen are huge (that's what my friends ordered). again the dishes weren't the best, but at least it was decent. bottom line - this place is decent, stop on in if you pass by and can't think of anything to eat; but i would never plan to go there. there are plenty of better sushi joints. just ask yelp. =)

    Just had lunch at YoYo. Arrived at 2:00 and the boat-bar closed at 2:20! Would have been nice if someone told us that BEFORE we sat at the boat-bar. Sub-par sushi for the whole 20 minutes we ate there. Never again.

    Rivermark plaza sucks, parking sucks, Yo Yo Sushi sucks I should have known better. 1 star for service 1 star because I did'nt get sick when I thought for sure I would. I always see lots of people patronizing this place it must be really good thinks I. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I will never go back. I was seated at the boat and ordered iced tea service was prompt off to a good start then a look at the boats not very good some of the offerings have been on deck for quite some time and are getting dried out. Some boats have very little cargo on them I watch the boats do a couple of laps and I go for a Tuna with rice, not bad for starters but certainly not good. Next Bbq'd mackeral on rice bad, rubbery texture no flavor weird color. Next spicy Tuna roll I think thats what it was I will name mush mush yo yo gabage roll. No flavor just a lump going into my food digestor. Three little plates and an iced tea $14.45 Thanks for coming sucker the hostess thinks as I walk out the door. Disappointed but not surprised frozen fish If they run out of something they can go over to Safeway sushi bar and trade with those guys. Safeways might be a little higher quality but not by much. Another bad restaurant at rivermark Why so busy, I don't know a lot of people have really bad taste or don't mind blowing their ducats on bad food. It boggles my mind to think this place has repeat customers I guess you can't go to Red Robin, Martin Yan's, or Baja fresh every day. These places try to outdo each other for mediocraty every day and the battle is fierce and at a stalemate kind of like trench warfare in W.W. 1 casualties are high but no one wins and the soldiers keep going back to the front Johnny get your fork and your money. People, as long as you keep eating this junk it's never gonna change

    My friend and I went a few weeks ago and we sat at the bar. The place looks pretty nice with the flat TVs. However, the sushi was very dried and it looks as if it was from left overs. The sushi was the most horrible sushi I had ever eaten because of the strong fishy smell. I felt a bit sick afterwards. The price was not cheap either. The service was ok. I would never go back again. It's all about Sushi Maru!

    Good sushi. Their California rolls were lacking a lot of avocado. The rice practically dominated the roll. The crab meat was a bit bland. But I do like this place. Their service was pretty good. Though I asked one of the waitresses if they had a sushi roll that combined the Crazy Monkey Roll and Dragon Roll to have both shrimp tempura and crab meat together (along with the unagi, rice and avocado) but she seemed to think I was ignorant and kept explaining to me that they're different and two seperate rolls (not exactly answering my question). Twice and then she did it it slowly and clearly. [Don't get me wrong, their servers are really good, but I just didn't understand what happened there. Their manager and a couple other workers were always asking if the customers were feeling okay and enjoying themselves.] I gave up and just ordered the Crazy Monkey Roll. It was pretty good, but a little on the salty side. The place looks like a modernized/American style sushi place. They serve alcoholic drinks and serve beer as well. It's not as aethetically pleasing, but their menu food is pretty good. On top of the ordinary sushi, they have really creative and innovative ones as well. Check out their website for the full menu (includes pictures of each sushi roll).

    me and my bf heart this place. we rarely kick it at mercado but when we do and crave sushi -- this is our choice. i always get their beef tataki, salad and their salmon teriyaki roll and i'm all gravy for the night. if i have room for dessert, i'll ask for some green tea ice cream. service is friendly. spacious dining area and lots to sit.

    since i tried the one at rivermark, i thought maybe this one would be better. boy was i wrong. we ate at the sushi bar this time. i was sooooo scared to pick anything off the boats, they looked like they were sitting out there for hours. the rice around the maki sushi's were getting hard. the most annnnoying part of my dinner was a drainhole that kept making this suction noise. i have decided never to go and waste my money there.

    While in the neighborhood, I wanted to go to an old sushi place I use to go to called 'Sushi Lovers.' Well, it was no longer there and replaced by 'Yo Yo' so we decided to check it out. Pretty disappointed to be honest. Don't be fooled by cheap sushi boat prices, the rolls are tiny and not too fresh nor flavorful. The sashimi is decent, but rolls-- please pass on that. The menu prices weren't really reasonable for the size and quality of food when comparing to similar bay area Japanese restaurants. What turned into initial excitement turned out to be a decent meal, but definitely nothing special, and probably won't be back.

    Yo Yo Sushi Mercado -- the same as the one at Rivermark -- has a better atmosphere than its predecessor, but the service is seriously annoying. The sushi is also 'fast food sushi' mostly served on conveyor belt-style boats with ample seating for a la carte customers. My biggest problem is the sloppy way the chef was preparing the sushi. We sat right in front of him watching his every move. His knife wasn't sharp enough so he wasn't slicing through the sashimi in one even stroke. The rolls were super large (Japanese sushi should be bite sized) that the guy sitting next to me along the sailboat conveyor was using a fork to take bites out of the roll he had chosen. On the positive side, the fish had lots of flavor even though each plate cost about $1 to $1.50 more than at other 'chain sushi conveyor belt restaurants'. The servers were so annoying. I was with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time and we were chatting and wasn't always grabbing food off the boats. Every time we did that, we were asked if everything was alright. The agedashi tofu took forever to come out but it tasted okay when it arrived. The miso soup is also the generic kind even though they do serve clam miso soup for $2 more. This location is situated right by the movie theaters so it's convenient for a quick before or after movie meal. However, it's not cheap so you could be left with an expensive day/evening out.

    Since I always bring my 3yr old daughter along with, the fact that they have chicken rolls gives it an automatic 2 stars. That said, the service is prompt, if you sit at a table. Though I did have a roll and it had some melted stuff on top of it. It wasn't unappetizing, but it was strange. The variety of rolls that they have were different than what I'm accustomed to seeing though. Like the one with melted stuff on top.

    Poorly prepared, tasteless sushi, and less than 30 minutes later I was nauseous and throwing it back up. It was my fault, I guess, for eating warm, mushy, questionable sushi from a slow-moving boat train. Disgusting.

    The sushi isn't too bad, but then I don't know a whole lot about sushi. It is expensive for the tiny portions! The wait staff were quite nice and attentive and the food arrived on time. I went for lunch on a weekend and the place was quite empty. There was an old perv hitting on the girl behind the bar and she was having a hard time being polite to him. It was quite amusing till the perv finally came to his senses and left.

    Came here for lunch when I was in the area. Looked like a nice place. After that, there wasn't much else to it. The food and service were both average at best. I would avoid this place and take the time to travel somewhere good to eat. There's virtually no reason to go here when there are so many better alternatives.

    ai yah... this place is terrible. i pass this restaurant often when i'm in santa clara and never gave it a thought. but few days ago, i was here and wanted to try it out. the sushi wasn't even that great! no wonder no one was in the restaurant! food is not fresh! .. i had better. hoped someone wouldve stopped me before opening the door. i will never go back.

    I met a friend here after work to grab a quick bite to eat before they closed. He assured me that the sushi was ok. I did not mind the Sushi but in the midst of my meal I began to hear barking coming from the kitchen. The sound was familiar as I have a high strung pomeranian at home. "Bark, bark, bark". Okay, maybe I have had a bit too much sake or maybe the radio in the kitchen is blaring some hip, new Japanese song because it was close to closing time and the cooks were getting down. WTF? It was neither. The owner, or the guy I assumed to be the owner, strolls out of the kitchen caring a huge hairball of a pomeranian. Now, by profession, I probably should have worked for the department of health as I am as much of a germaphobe or more than USA's Monk, but keeping your dog in the kitchen of a restaurant has to be a serious health code violation. What was worse, not one of the other patrons was as disgusted as I was. Now, if the owner keeps his dog chained in the kitchen, there is not telling what other biohazardous situations go on here. I will never eat here again!!!!

  • Jenny M.

    oh, God this was bad. I just ate here and I'm quite certain that it's about to come back up. The rice tasted weird and was a tacky texture. The fish was not fresh and were really cheap cuts. Even the tap water was cloudy. This is one of the very few one star reviews that I have ever written. I wish that I would have asked for my money back. Please, Yo Yo Sushi, do something to save your business before someone gets sick!

    ~~~ Over-priced and completely underwhelming.~~~ If ever there needed to be a title for this review, that'd be it. Came here with a co-worker friend for lunch. Unfortunately there aren't that many choices in this neck of the valley. I think this is the only reason why this place gets any business. Bento boxes were 11.50. Sushi rolls were over 10. Everything was over-priced. The sushi didn't even taste fresh or good in any way, shape, or form! And I am usually pretty easy to please! Sitting at the bar there was a floating sushi boat. The plates whizzed by so fast that one could hardly see what kind of sushi it was. And it was always the same choices. The plates ranged from 2.50 to 5. Most were at least 3.50. This place is totally forgettable. The rating for 1 star is "Eek! Methinks not." I completely agree! Do yourself a favor and go to Amarin Thai, World Wraps, or Tomatina's!
    I know this place has gotten some bad reviews but I like it. What can I say? My wife and I, get take out every Friday. She gets sashimi every time and the portions are large, and the salmon is always top quality. I get various menu items and all have been good. Portions are always on the large side. Is it the best sushi bar in town? No, but it isn't the worst either. For a good meal for a decent price, you can't beat it. Do a Google search for Yo Yo Sushi coupon and get a coupon for 15% off any take-out order.
    The sushi was OK. I went on a Wed evening and it was quite slow. The two chefs were *very* interested in a female tennis game. They did have a little sushi boat thingey but it didn't have much of a selection. The selection may have been because of the slow night. The food that I got was fresh and filling.
    Don't sit in the sushi bar area...eek!!! Dry, dry, dry little fishy friends. :( Their bento dinner is a bit pricey, but they give huge portions. The rolls are ok. That's about it. Nothing memorable.
    My boyfriend and I ate dinner here before catching a movie next door. When we walked through the doors, we could already see that it was pretty packed. There was a huge party going on in the seating area and the bar line was packed. Even though it was packed, we still got our seats on the bar quickly. My boyfriend and I both ordered teriyaki plates but still grabbed a some sushi. They have the biggest sushi boat line I've ever seen before. It went around half of the entire restaurant. Although it's cool that it's so big, it also sucks because people who are sitting closer to the beginning of the line gets the good stuff, while people who are sitting at the end of the line (such as me), aren't getting anything new or fresh. The same mini sushi plates kept circling us and all we wanted was something fresh because we were tired of eating old, dry sushi. After waiting for so long, we only got a few fresh sushi rolls then just gave up trying to get more. Our teriyaki plates were good though. Nothing over cooked or dry. Their sauce wasn't over powering and we both seemed to love our dishes. The waiters were all very friendly and always came to our needs. I would definitely come back, but the drive keeps me from doing so since I live a bit farther. Minus two stars because we never got any fresh sushi.
    Bad. Don't go for the sushi bar ever. I went twice to the sushi boat/bar. Both times disappointed to find the sushi boat is never refreshed, and it seems to be all standard rolls pre-made from the morning that go round and round. Two sushi chefs behind the counter appear busy but all they do is make sushi for people who sit at tables, they completely ignore the sushi boat, which seems like the left overs from wrong orders from table sitting patrons that they just dump into the sushi boat. The sushi chefs ignore you, the waitress disappears, and same shitty old sushi rolls go round and round even during the busy lunch hour. Also the glass overhang (actually plastic) on the sushi boat is so scatched and/or dirty you can hardly see whats there! On my last trip, I had only one plate and left, whereas I would usually eat 7-8 plates at a good sushi boat. Imagine a very hungry customer with a pocket full of money leaving hungry, its that bad.
    Wow, I really was surprised to see that this place has such a low rating. But then again I guess I can't really try 90% of the foods here so ... What I can say is that the veggie udon is delish, the veggie tempura is average, and the veggie tempura sushi is delish! The udon bowl size is ginormous which makes coming here a treat when I need my udon fix. don't come here expecting japanese restaurant service cuz you're going to get chinese restaurant service if you get my flow. i have heard the rivermark one is better but if you work in the mercado area and you need some sort of japanese food this place is better than none i guess.
    Been here twice, second time coming only because there werent that many other options nearby before a movie. I was hoping the second time would be better, giving it another chace, but no. Service is alright, but sushi is just horrible. Not sure how they can justify charging so much for the quality of sushi they give. I don't know how this place possibly stays in business in such an expensive location
  • E L.
    Good selection, but kind of expensive. Not great for lunch. On top of that, the staff seems entitled to add tips onto the credit card- found that out later, while reconciling my statement. I will not go there again.
    Not as good as i had hoped. Small portions and its pretty obvious that these items have been left out for a while. The sushi bar selection was pretty bad. Same three items round and round.
    Not very good. Probably won't kill you but I don't go to sushi restaurants so that I can choke down something barely acceptable. Been a while since I have gone. Went one time with the wife and never went back even though we are in the plaza regularly.
    Yuck. Needed quick dinner before kids melted down after a long day @ Great Am. Sushi is usually a safe bet with my offspring. Surprise! They have butter-yaki on the menu! Haven't had that since nineteen-mumble! Oo, and kid's bento! That's cool! No. Butter-yaki was yucky. Meat was overcooked, dry, stringy, tasteless. Veggies with it were nice except for the woody asparagus and mushy carrots. Miso was so-so. Minuscule cubes of tofu (didn't know you could cut it that small!). Katsu in my kid's bento was also...dry, tasteless, ugh! Not sure why but she didn't like the agedashi tofu. They never gave her the ice cream that's part of the bento package. The rolls going by on the boats were not interesting, nor did they look fresh. We ordered everything off the menu. Husband rates this place the worst he's ever had in the Bay Area and he's lived here forty-mumble years... To their credit, they did refill our water glasses frequently. Not going back.
    Yo Yo is one of those places that you go to when you want something quick before hitting up a movie next door. It's not going to knock your socks off and it's not going to give you food poisoning. That said... Before I left town for xmas, I met a friend here for dinner. Sat at the bar. Watched the little boats go by. What did I see on some of them? Oh, nothing big, just little love notes from what must have been some disgruntled sushi chef in the back. One note came every 5 or 6 boats. Note #1: This place bad, leave now. Note #2: The waitress drinks on the job. Note #3: Miyake is better. Note #4: Do not eat the california roll. Did these notes make me never want to come back to Yo Yo? Hell no. They were pure comedy and kept me there waiting for another note for an extra 20 minutes. I'll be back next week for sure. Comical.
    came here last week after movies. the sushi was ok i think, it wasnt the highlight. i had some roll, i dont really remember.... it had a tempura inside and i think it was salmon on the top. my friend, alice had some other roll, i didnt try. i just like the tempura lunch bento. the shrimp tempura was good. it was the type i like with the japanese flaky type of batter. price wise. i think its not cheap. i probably wouldnt go here for sushi, but the tempura bento box was decent, although pricey.... total was $41+5tip for 2 rolls, tempura bento, and additional side salad.
    DO NOT GO HERE. This palce, although in a very nice plaza. is very expensive and the food isn't that fresh. Or it doesn't seem fresh. Oh, if that's not reason enough to not eat here. Here's the ender. I saw hair on not 1, but 2 sushi rolls on the sushi boat. You don't know how many times i stopped eating, just to look at the roll pass me by.
    Not sure what was up with this place. Just wasn't my steeze. Me and my girlfriend use to come here often because we were going to school down the street and this seemed like the spot to have occasional lunches. Not only that this place is conveniently located right next to the movie theaters so we would catch this place either before of after a movie. It a pretty decent spot and easily got 3stars in my book. Hard to say but this place was really horrible the last time I tried it, so back that I had to knock it down a star. Why you ask? well we ordered the YO-YO Nuggets which were way to over cooked and was scratching the top of my roof of my mouth almost every time I took a bite. We also had the spicy tuna crunch which was "nothing" spicy, while the wonton chips were fried to much and were hard as a rock, just about every time I took a bit, it seemed like I was chipping my tooth. Another thing was that my son usually gets his usual, crab sushi (just crab wrapped around in rice) and his usual pot stickers (he gets this same order just about everywhere) and for him to say that it was the worse sushi place that he's tried has got to mean something (knowing that he gets some simple stuff). He said that his crab sushi had no flavor and tasted like it was just rice he was eating, and on top of that he said his pot sticker were to crunchy (must of over fried it as well). I don't know what was up with YO YO sushi that day because it usually is better than that when we use to go before, but I had such a bad enough experience that I won't even come back no more. Maybe I caught this place at a bad time or the cooks were just different, well whatever it was they seriously need to change it, or they will lose a lot more customers, because this is definitely going to be the last time I come here, unless for some reason there is some sort of occasion or someone wants to eat there and I have no choice.
    I Got SICK from their sushi! I used to attend night classes at Mission College, one night before my class I decided to try this place and the sushi I ordered, just felt "off". I went to class afterward, and something wasn't sitting right, I went to the bathroom and reversed digestion. Seriously, find another sushi place.
    I usually only eat here if we are craving sushi right before a movie (as it's conveniently located near AMC Mercado) and we actually have time to eat dinner beforehand. Ehh.. The sushi is just okay. Whenever I leave, I still feel hungry for some reason. After a while, all the sushi seems to taste the same - no matter which roll you order. The salad dressing is super watery and the soup wasn't piping hot the way I like. As the two star rating explains, "Meh. I've experienced better."
  • Rose T.
    Please DO NOT go here! Anywhere but here! The fish was dry and my guess was it's been sitting out since there weren't that many customers. The waitress was pushy and every time I'd ask her a question, she'd say "Huh? What?!". I don't think I was talking that low either. Very rude! Just don't ever go here cause it's nasty!
    I came here for the first time during lunch and ordered their bento box, which included the following (broken down with reviews of each item): - Miso Soup: Too salty and grainy. The grainy texture made the soup unpleasant. - Salad: The portion was small and the greens were okay. I thought the dressing was pretty bland though. - Rice: Standard sticky rice, and it seemed to be a larger portion compared to other places where I've ordered a bento box. - Salmon Teriyaki: Definitely very bland. I had to drench the salmon with the teriyaki sauce for a few seconds before eating it with rice. It still wasn't tasty enough. The piece of salmon was a generous portion though. - California Roll: Okay, before you guys all get started about how California rolls aren't legit Japanese rolls, I'm a big fan of the CA roll and after tasting a lot of them from a ton of restaurants, I came to the conclusion that these just weren't good. I liked the fact that they didn't include cucumber in the roll (I prefer my roll with just crab and avocado inside) but the overall taste was bland as well! - Food timing: We ordered after we got seated and I swear the food came out in less than 5 minutes. Sketchy. - Restaurant busyness: We came here during lunch hour and the restaurant was only about 1/3 full. The size is considerably large for a Japanese sushi restaurant, but it got me thinking about how it was doing on Yelp... - Server: I hate, hate, HATE it when the server drops off the check when you're only halfway done eating. I always feel like rushing to finish my email because they want me out asap or something. The server gave us our check when we were less than halfway done with our meal, which peeved me. Another server did check up on our teas though quite a few times during our meal, so that was a good thing. The bento box was $10.50 for 2 items of your choice (in this case, I had the salmon teriyaki and the California rolls). For the price you pay, I don't think it's really worth it. There are plenty of other Japanese restaurants around Sunnyvale that serve better sushi and have bento boxes for $7 to $8.
    Yo Yo this place is crap! It is through my experience that 99% of Japanese restaurants that serve their sushi on floating boats will most likely have disgusting sushi. Yo Yo Sushi is no exception. I was hungry, so I decided to be brave and try one of the plates that floated by. I'm not scurred. Oh my, what a mistake....the rice was hard like it had been sitting out for hours...and it probably had been. Floating around and around and around for the whole fricken day. On top of that, the fish was umm not so fresh. Gross. The food is below average too. Why would people come here? I'm not sure. I wish I never walked in.
    I had lunch here after taking a test at Mission College. I did not enjoy it one bit. It's expensive, and really not worth my time or money. The food took long, the waiter sucked, and in all honestly, I could of had like a cheeseburger meal @ In N Out right next door. I heard it USE to be good .. but I guess the old chef left? I just highly don't recommend it.
    I remember coming here years back when this place was a different sushi restaurant. As I recall, it was mediocre back then...soo I was hoping this newly owned restaurant would've have gotten better. We came here lunch and was seated promptly. I can't say that the sushi boats looked very appetizing (as they were covered in plastic covers, and look like they've been sitting), so we avoided sitting at the bar. We were asked a few times whether we were ready to order by two different waitresses... They should keep track of asking us one too many times! We ordered the fried oyster appetizer, the UFO roll, salmon skin handroll, and the yo yo sushi platter (CA roll plus 6 pieces of nigiri). Overall, the sashimi slices were pretty well sized, looked fresh (but had a strange rubbery texture, so maybe wasn't too fresh or low quality?). The fried oysters seemed twice fried and were unappetizing -- I didn't like the sauce they served it with either! The UFO roll was a pure disappointment -- pricy roll with nice PICTURES. The actual roll had scallops which were overcooked and super small! The CA roll was filled with rice- blah. Service wasn't too bad. Overall, this place was BLAH! For the same price, I could get really good sushi elsewhere!
    I have been here on numerous occasions, since I used to work nearby for about 2 years. I don't have any gripes about the place, but I am a professional when it comes to sushi. I have ate off the sushi boat, which is okay I guess. I usually try to get something different when I go here. The spider rolls are good, the unagi is good, but unagi is pretty much the same anywhere. I also like the hand rolled spicy tuna rolls. I think the only thing that I was disappointed with was the teriyaki salmon lunch bento I had once. The salmon was okay, but the sauce was kind of gross in my opinion. I have only been here for lunch times, so it is always crowded, and some of the times we have no choice but to sit at the sushi bar, but that's okay, the hostess is hot lol.
    The place was almost empty when we arrived and service was still horrible. It took a while for the lady to take our order. Then the food took forever to come out even though hardly anybody was there. They forgot to put in one of my sushi orders and did not realize it until they gave me the bill and asked me did I still want the order. I would have told them that I was missing the order of sushi if they ever came back during our meal to ask if we needed anything else. The food was pretty good though (Only because I love sushi), but the service was horrible.
    GPS FAIL. Parents FAIL. My parents are in town for a wedding this weekend, and they always insist on eating Japanese food. Why, I have no idea. I don't know Santa Clara at all (save for the fact that there's a Yoshinoya somewhere), so my Dad relied upon his GPS to guide us to the closest Japanese restaurant. Yo Yo was it. While we were toward the place (which is in a strip mall), I checked Yelp to see whether we were walking into a trap. We were. I immediately sounded the alarm and told my parents that fellow Yelpers abjectly rejected this place. The alarm went unheeded. What a disaster. Service was rude. Food was even ruder. High priced, no taste. Had the Sukiyaki, which had no taste. A perversion of that beer commercial from the 90s: no taste, but quite filling. FAIL. My parents know better now, and they now know that they should trust real-life Yelpers (and not that disembodied woman speaking from their little Garmin). FAIL.
    Okay, seriously, I don't know why people go here. I tried here twice and Yo Yo sushi place in Rivermark area once. Both are not so worth spending your money. Quality of fish and the service are not that great here. i would not go here again.
    Due to the fact that the team and I spend 9 months out of a year at a client's site which is located within a stone's throw from Rivermark Plaza, our choices for takeout lunch is limited. It is therefore unavoidable that I've had more than my fair share of Yo Yo Sushi's substandard offerings. For that very reason, I couldn't dissociate Yo Yo Sushi to multi tasking - eating lunch in front of a computer and going through the clients' ledgers with a fine toothcomb. So I thought the experience would be different if I and team took the time to leave our computers (and ledgers... and toothcombs) and drive over to Rivermark and dine in for once (and provide the poor junior a much-needed relief from having to pick up food for the team everyday). I was wrong. First off, parking was horrendous. Though no fault of Yo Yo's, it unfortunately added to the unpleasant experience. After perusing the colorful menu (see my review of Sushi Tomo for common features of a Japanese Food Fraudster), we made our selections of chirashi, a few bento boxes, and sushi rolls (Sex On The Mountain??? One star for creativity). The tuna and salmon on chirashi were of very weird colors - bright red and bright orange, and of very weird texture - rubbery. The sushi rice was overly sweet and the ratio of sashimi topping and rice is unacceptably low. $85 plus tip for four people was a ridiculous amount to pay for such a disappointing and forgettable dining experience. Since the dine-in experience wasn't that much better, we decided to resort back to occasional take-out and abovedescribed multitasking... much to my junior's dismay....
    This place calls itself "Sushi Fusion in Silicon Valley"! Are you kidding me? It should be called "Sushi Confusion"!!! We only went here, against my better judgement, because we had little time to eat before seeing a movie at the Mercado AMC Theaters. Bad Choice! This has got to be owned by Vietnamese, or maybe Chinese. Even Korean Sushi places are a couple of cuts above this, owing to the fact that Japan occupied Korea for 50 years until WWII, so the older generation may hate the Japanese, but they know the food! Sukiyaki...a pretty traditional dish that even Americans know how to do poorly, was an abomination here! It came in a large soup bowl with everything floating in this tasteless broth! And the thick, clear yam noodles that should be Japanese Shiritaki were actually thinner, milk colored Vietnamese Bun type noodles! There was no flavor at all, and the dish was presented like it was Japanese Pho! IT would have been very bad Vietnamese food too! The Chirashi should come in a large bowl neatly arranged with Sashimi artfully covering the rice underneath. This order came in a flat round sushi tray! Sacrilege! They give you a lot of fish, but all were tasteless and too chilled, with horrible cuts, even against the grain. What a waste of seafood! You could tell by the decor, too. Most Japanese restaurants are cozy, not with a huge open dining room and a cold, sterile, fake feeling to it. This experience was like rushing to get it on in a moment of passion with very little time, only to realize your partner was faking it to get it over with! I have never been so disappointed with bad Japanese food! This experience of unauthenticity was like many years ago when I ate Chinese food in the only remotely Chinese restaurant in Hanford, California in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley with my Chinatown raised buddies/ roomates. When the proprietor asked how was her Chinese Food compared to San Francisco, we all thought, "You call this Chinese food? You don't want to know lady"! If you want anything remotely like real Japanese food, go somewhere else, anywhere else, please, to save the face of all Japanese, so they don't have to apologize to you or commit seppuku (aka Harakiri, or kill oneself with dignity rather than be shamed with dishonor and live. And no, it is not pronounced Harry Carey, although the longtime Chicago Cubs announcer is dead!) for the shame of this place passing as Japanese! I had to eat overpriced popcorn at the AMC just to satisfy my desire for something remotely familiar and satisfying. (Easier choice than the alternatives mentioned above!) At least the movie was good! Too bad it cost us $50, indigestion and lasting nightmares to eat before it! (Indigestion: mild form of Harakiri)
    This place suck. Flavor is eh. Portions are double eh. Presentation is ugh. I thought the whole reason a cherry blossom is called a cherry blossom is because it looks like a blossom O_o. They lined it up. I ordered a blossom not a roll!! Lazy bastards. The only thing our party got slightly excited about was the spicey mayo that came with one of the menu items. What the eh???? Siracha + Mayo. TADA!! Kidding, I'm sure it was more complex than that. =X Siracha + Mayo + Garlic. TAADDAA!
    I went there with my family 2 days ago for lunch...I'm surprised this place even gets close to being crowded. I felt rushed throughout my whole lunch like they were trying to kick us out of our seats to make room for more customers. In matter of 5 minutes of sitting down, we were asked by 2 waiters if we were ready to order yet. GEEZ I've barely even had time to open my menu! CHILL OUT!! Service is really not great. Our server was not friendly at all. She was too lazy to take an empty plate off the table so she just set our new rectangular plate of baked rolls on top of our old round empty plate. ?? My brother ordered the bento box and my dad ordered the tempura...they seemed satisfied. Nothing special. But satisfied. My mom and I are more of the sushi eaters and ordered a baked roll, another roll with salmon on it, and another roll with eel and avocado. (Sorry I can't remember the names since the rolls were so forgettable) The rolls were so small and poorly put together. Definitely not satisfied. The pieces of salmon on top of the roll were SO SMALL. Very shady for the high price they put on each roll. Go to Sushi O Sushi instead. They pile on the raw fish and their baked rolls are MUCH MUCH better + they are not shady at all with the sushi. Not worth spending the big $$ in this sushi restaurant. Go somewhere else.
    Can I give 1/2 a star? I've eaten at hundreds of sushi restaurants and I could complain about the sushi being a little tired (which this place definately served) and the selection of fish was limited (ditto), but I've never had been served a "sour smelling" piece of sushi. Yo-Yo sushi is a "sushi boat" restaurant. We were there for dinner after a brief shopping event and the sushi looked as if it left over from lunch. You could see that the rice on the sushi rolls was hard (a sign that it has been left out for a long time). So I figured I would order directly from the chef behind the counter - the thought was the stuff I ordered would be freshly made. No such luck! Every piece I ordered looked like it was old and not handled correctly. But you would think that the safest thing to order was "maguro" (tuna)....the photo's below must have been taken from another restaurant. I'm ditching my Blackberry because the browser is shitty and I can't check Yelp as the web browser takes "forever" for the to search for anything! I plan to call the health department in the morning.
    Okay, so this was a dis-service to Japanese cuisine. I went during a dead hour, the booths screamed purple like a Thai restaurant and there was blaring TV's and Alice 97.3 was playing in the background. But it just got worse, with disheveled service, everything was overpriced and I feel more bloated than light from eating the sushi. The salmon was obviously old, that's probably why it was swimming in teriyaki sauce (to mask the odor) and really it just wasn't pleasant. I was weary of this place before coming here but it was by school so I thought I'd try it. Everything seemed more worse for the wear after that. They have another location in Rivermark about 5 miles away. Now I am wondering if the owners are idiots.
    blegh! i used to like this place because of it's convenient location and cleanliness. the last two times i have been there, i have been sorely disappointed. even on the most crowded of days there are usually only two servers. it's also pretty pricey. okay, most sushi joints deal with both of these issues, BUT last time i went the spicy tuna roll tasted as if it had a hard coating over it [must have been left uncovered for at least a day] and the maguro sashimi was hard as a rock. nassssty. so sad. wish they'd step up their game!
    Ok... this is half a review for what it is.... and a quarter review for what it isn't.... yeah.. and you don't wanna know the other part... ok.. so this is one of those places that just gets tons of business because it's convenient to businesses in the area. Yes.. not a good excuse and here we go again with the location location location thing. whatever..... But it's better than sushi lovers or whatever used to be here... so if you are dying for something japanese... this might be passable. no refills on fountain drinks? get outta here... that's just straight up lame
    Work is nearby so we sometimes go. Its not the friendliest place to go to. The food is decently priced and the portions are good. Parking can get difficult during lunch hour. But most importantly, the service kind of sucks. The waiters look like they hate their job, the cashier is too busy working the register to have a character, just not a very happy place. The sushi is ok but not always the freshest.
    I should have yelped this place before checking it out. My friend and I sat ourselves in front of the sushi boat area and we waited, and waited, and waited for the $2.50 rolls to come out onto the boat, but they never did. We were forced to try the more expensive sushi which didn't taste so expensive. My friend ended picking us up some take out teriyake chicken the following weekk just to try it out and it was okay, but this places specializes in SUSHI not chicken. If you want sushi from here you are better off going to Trader Joe's.
    How many times have I gone to a restaurant and said "I am totally going to yelp this place when I get home?"....hundreds!!!! but given the number of reviews I have actually written, I seem to always let life carry me away from the true yelper I want to be...an elite one like my elite, yelping, bragging friends. Anyway, this experience yelped me all the way here to tell you that YO YO Sushi Bar is just AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. I ate here for the first time after 7 years or so, and my memory from then was probably on par with the place in Palo Alto that we went to during college to stand up on the table and say Saki Bom (Miyaki?)...which wasn't good at all. This is where people who don't know what good sushi is actually go. Tonight at mo fo Yo Yo, we ordered the sashimi combo and a couple of sushi rolls. Everything was just bad. The fish was not fresh, and all of it had some strange funk to it...you know how when the freezer smells funny, and then all the food you put in it smells just like it...well, put that together with fish and you get stomach turning gross!!!! Salmon and Maguru sashimi should melt in your mouth if it is fresh, and this was just thickened and almost chewy. The smell turned my stomach and we left with much of the food still left on the table. We returned the maguru and they gave us himachi instead, but the smelly funk made it impossible to eat. For two people, we paid about $66 with tax (we had saki and a beer). I would never never eat here again. I would give it a zero if a could. My friend left sick due to the food, and the food hasn't sat well with me either. Don't go here! Poor quality fish only causes bad things to happen. Yuck!
    I have mixed feelings about this place. I ordered two different things and one of them tasted AMAZING and the other, uh, not so much! Hamachi Sashmi = very fresh and tasty Spicy Tuna Roll = disgustingly smelt of raw sewage and tasted like it too! Needless to say, I don't think I will be going back to this place. It's only appeal is that it's close to my work for a quick lunch spot.
    I had been seeing this place for a while since it's right next to the theatre, and a few weeks ago my friend and I checked it out. We sat at the bar (which is gi-normous and wraps around the restaurant) the sushi sailing around didn't look too fresh, so we ordered from the menu instead. The sushi was delicious and the staff was friendly. I wasn't expecting much because of the area, but I was delightfully surprised. The sake bloody mary was pretty awesome as well.
    For those that fear RAW stuff, I loved the Daisy roll. It was baked, it was juicy, it was COOKED tuna. It was awesome =) The service is pretty good too! I was actually sitting outside in the heat today and they waitress came back at the right times, the food came out in just amount of time and it was really nice to finally talk to a waitress that understood everything I asked for. Loved it!
    I'm not a fan of their other location, and I can't say I'm a big fan of this location either. I'll start with the caveat that the other Yo Yo location had already tainted my expectations of this location. I went for dinner with a group of friends. We got there early, so the restaurant was pretty much empty, which mean decent service. It wasn't particularly friendly, but it wasn't terrible either. They pile huge amounts of food which I guess is cool, but it's so much that most of it goes wasted, especially if you're going to watch a movie. Let's be honest - who really wants to take Japanese leftovers into a movie theater and have them sitting around for a few hours before getting the food into your fridge back at home? I'd personally much rather they lower their prices a bit and cut back on the portions. I'm not a big fan of food waste. The bento I ordered had California rolls and pork katsu. Overall, it was pretty good. The miso soup we had at the beginning was ridiculously salty though. The reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 3 is because they did not have any donburi bowls (the rice bowls). HOW DOES A JAPANESE RESTAURANT NOT SERVE DONBURI BOWLS? A few of us were craving them, and we were sadly disappointed. The waitress said they only serve donburi bowls at lunch. You've got to be kidding me. Next thing I was waiting for was that they only serve raw fish between 2pm and 3pm on odd days during a leap year when the moon is blue and mars is visible to the naked eye. We even asked if she could just have one made and charge us for it, but she insisted she couldn't without even going to ask the chef or anyone. Give me a break. A donburi is a high margin item for you and not very difficult to make if you're a Japanese restaurant. I change my mind. Service sucked... the food I got was still okay, but not satisfying since I had an unsatisfied craving. I'd better stop writing before I change it to 1 star.
    Went here after a horrible experience at Mexicali My boyfriend and I were running a little late for a movie so we had to make dinner quick. They have generous portions and the food is super tasty. We didn't get a chance to try the sushi but we did have Teriyaki Dinners. YUMMY!!!! PS: the service was GREAT!
  • Sasha W.
    The only reason this is a three star and not a two is that I sometimes come back here. Why do I come back here? Simple: if I'm craving sushi on an off-time (between 2-5 or on a Sunday), this place is open. I can eat the sushi here, but only as a last resort. It's not great, not that fresh. The miso was a real disappointment, since I can't imagine eating at a Japanese place without my bowl of miso. This miso was just under mediocre. If anyone knows a decent sushi place that doesn't close down between lunch and dinner or on Sundays, be a doll and let me know, so I can eat somewhere else!!
    I don't normally write a bad review. I just would like to share good restaurants and services to other people, so when I hit "not so good" ones, I just ignore it. However, the food here was so bad that I just had to write it. Their food was very tasteless. I don't think I would come back. Food came very quickly. Also all servers were very friendly and the service was very good, they get 2 stars. :)
    THIEFS! This place stole my credit card information and tried to buy close to $10,000.00 worth of airline tickets from Iberia.com . I had the unfortunate experience of eating extremely terrible food from this place yesterday and now they're trying to steal thousands of dollars! I was merely going to check this place off of places to eat and part ways, however now I have to get the police involved. So here is my experience with this place. We walked in and actually got seated quickly and received food quickly, however the food tasted like it had been sitting out for weeks. It was terrible! Also, when we were eating, the waitress squeezed between my friend and I to refill the barely used soy sauce. I wish she was as attentive to my empty drink...I had to flag down a couple of different people to actually refill the drink, which they charged an extra dollar for. I thought only nice restaurants charged per drink?? You're making a mistake walking into this dump. I recommend eating microwavable top ramen instead....
    (1)
  • Aida M.
    Every time I go there I get the most awful service ever!! I ordered a side of rice with soy sauce to go with the lunch I brought from home (to go of course) and the lady asks in a very rude fashion "is THAT it?!" I said yea, and she said "you want misto soup too?" i said sure just so i didn't WASTE HER TIME as I was obviously doing..... I proceeded to give her my card when she said "you don't have cash?" again, super rude.... NO I obviously don't have cash and as far as I know from my 10 years of customer service experience, you don't need to question my form of payment unless you don't accept it, just get me what I want- after all, I AM PAYING YOU!..... sounds rude but i've put up with so much crap that I think there's no reason she should have rolled her eyes and used that tone with me since I was nothing but pleasant. I even left a dollar tip for my rude take-out--- but I will never go back and I'll make sure no one I know does either.
    What is it with sushi on boats? Is it some metaphoric way to return the fish to the sea they came from before they're devoured by people like me? Regardless of what it is, I'll take it!! On a boat, on a tray, in a trough, the sushi in this place is DELICIOUS!!! What makes it even better is that the staff at Yo Yo Sushi treat you like you're a guest in their home. Nice, friendly folk --- they are a pleasure to deal with. The place is reasonably priced too. Check 'em out at: yo-yosushi.com/main.html
    After taking a sushi making class and visiting this establishment...this is white people American sushi. Decided to order the Rainbow Roll and Spicy Scallop hand roll. Both were not bad but not great. The rice they use here is mushy and not good. Which is the main component in sushi and a determining factor on whether its good or not. Service was fast but not hospitable. Coming during lunch in the middle of the week...this place gets really crowded. Friend got their bento box, which was huge and overflowing with chicken. We sat at the sushi bar where the boats were not even full.
    The vegetarian California rolls were pretty good. The miso soup was not even warm and didn't taste very good. The cucumber salad was also not very good. I used to come here a lot when it was Sushi Lovers and I enjoyed that a bit more. The food here isn't really bad, it's just not great. If you're hungry and you want sushi then by all means it's ok. The service was decent but the cleanliness was not very good. When they went to seat us, they had to pick another table because there was chicken underneath the the table that they were gonna seat us at. Can't beat the convenience of the location; we were at a conference at the Marriott across the street. IT would be great to see a south bay location produce awesome sushi like we can get in the city a la Ozumo.
    Talk about pricey. Service was blah. They didn't mind me much. Food .... I totally should of just went to in and out. I came here after being at mission college down the street a few weeks ago..     Everytime I come here, I hope that it's better than the previous time because I want to believe it's good. It's in a good location n ambience is nice. But each time I am disappointed by the poor service, small portion size, n the bad sushi they have. Definitely not a go to sushi spot.
    What happened?? i remember a couple years ago this was delicious. Went here last week and the sushi was just okay.. the whole place was pretty drab feeling with the half-turned on lighting (trying to save money on electricity?) The sushi was edible but not great. The only redeeming part was that the Udon Noodle dish I ordered was MASSIVE. It was pretty good too with lots of veggies and tempura. Good value.. but that was pretty much the only highlight.
    I agree with the other comments on here about the service not bein super great. Our waitress called me "hun" which I highly resent because she was probably a few years younger than me. The food was pretty good, however. I really enjoyed the beef tataki and a couple of the rolls were good. My fiancee did get a few rolls he didn't care for, however, so I think it's sort of hit or miss. The prices were fairly high as well. Overall, I think there are better sushi restaurants in the area. If you happen to be seeing a movie at AMC I would suggest trying this place because it's right next door. Otherwise, go somewhere else.
    The quality here is really hit or miss depending on how long the staff has let the sushi sit on the boat. The staff is slow and it takes forever for them to bring you drinks or the check. All I have to say is never again for the following reasons: 1. Some of the sushi usually has been sitting for most of the day. 2. The sushi boat has no variety, so in turn the sushi sits for a long time here. 3. The quality isn't very high for the price they charge. 4. The staff doesn't care. 5. It takes them 5-10 minutes for they notice you need something, unless you're talking, then they asking you every two minutes if you need something. 6. It takes 5 minutes or more for the bill and if you are waiting for a movie you are going to be late. 7. They ran out of diet coke and the staff didn't understand when I asked them if they had anything else that was diet. All the waitress said was that they had Lemonade, which I'm sure has a lot of sugar. 8. I saw them pull old sushi off the boat and serve it to people who ordered it at a table. In all fairness when they do make something fresh it does look good or if you order a bento box it does look fresh, but I don't want to play roulette with food.
    I went here for dinner around 8:00pm and it was very slow. I had the beef teriyaki with CA roll bento box. The first thing came out is the soup. The soup taste a little salty with two small chuck of tofu. Then, the main dish came out. The beef was not that great because it contain a lot of fat on the side. However, the teriyaki sauce was okay. The CA roll taste pretty good because it was not too creamy. The salad dressing taste okay; however, I think Sushi boat salad dressing is a lot better. The portion was big, so I was full afterward. In the end, I've noticed one problem with the bento box. The red color at the bottom of the rice was peeling or maybe it was the design like that. The Service is there but you have to call them. Plus, it was only four table at that time so the waitress standing at the bar talking and watching TV.
    When will I ever learn that I should not. Repeat...should NOT go to a sushi boat place for sushi??? I went here last Sat afternoon because I was going to see a movie next door. Figured the Mexicali grill sucks. Wasn't in the mood for wraps and definitely didn't want to overpay for a burger at Taxi's. Well. I should have opted for those places instead of this sh*thole. I've never eaten here, but I had an open mind coming in. The 1st clue that it was a mistake was when I saw two sushi boat carousels moving with no one (chef's included) on the left island, but it still had boats floating with sushi on them. WTF??? They must have them combined, now that I think about it. Needless to say, the sushi looked like they were left over from the night before. There were two waitresses who could care less how we felt. They took our orders and promptly stayed away the rest of the time. I opted for the Saba dinner, which was cooked and smelled like it had a freshness date of 7 days ago. It didn't taste bad, but it smelled horrible. Like I worked in a factory and someone decided to microwave their fish dinner for lunch and stink up the cafeteria. I say skip this place. The sushi sucks, the waitresses suck, and the prices definitely suck.
    If you've survived the lunchtime rapids of near-unexperienced drivers trying to park at the Rivermark Plaza, you'll find yourself still with a poor selection of restaurants, all with wait times of at least 20 minutes. Rivermark is the concentrator of all tech locals who don't know any better about food, nor have the motivation to venture farther than a mile for decent fare, because fellow geeks, there's nothing else around. Now what was I talking about? Ah yes, there's hot dog on a stick, and sushi on a conveyor belt. Certainly not a new concept to have fish passing under your nose and a sneeze screen (hopefully) whilst you try and remember whether the green-capped or the red-capped soy sauce is the low-sodium one. A glance to either side sometimes draws entertainment value when someone inexperienced in the cuisine tries to take a bite out of the plastic grass, or mistakes wasabi for guacamole. Now what was I talking about? Oh yeah, ate here once at the belt, another time at a table. Each experience was mediocre. Just good, no real concerns about parasite/protein ratio from the fish; decent preparation for both raw and cooked, but overall a low value proposition for what you're paying in both time (finding a parking space) and money.
    I go to mission college and am a full time student. This restaurant is really is very nicely located Parking can be a problem during weekend nights, but other than that, parking is not that bad. Of course there are times where it can be difficult, but why complain when your parked 6 spaces down instead of two? The lunch hour is really because seating is quick, and the chiefs are even quicker. I prefer to grab a seat at the table when it is slower. The service is always nice and always worth to give a tip. When the place is more busy, I grab a place at the bar and pick from the boats. It is a casual environment with a friendly staff. They have several TVs set up throughout the restaurant and are accessible where ever you sit down and eat. Good for the quick lunch brunch, Dinner hours can get a little bit crazy with parking and service.
    This place is a generic sushi restaurant and has all you would expect in such a place. The other sushi places nearby are on Lawrence and Rivermark. Rivermark is too crowded for parking, and it's the same chain restaurant base on the name. I ordered Rainbow roll (or Dragon roll, don't remember exactly), and loved it actually. They also serve very huge udon bowl that you can share. Service is the con. Waitresses chat with each other & don't really pay attention to customers (at least in my case).
    Horrible service! The waiter was an a-hole and here's why: - No courtesy to begin with - No water served for both of us - Final straw: They brought both the rolls we ordered (one vegetarian) on the same plate. On requesting politely to have them separated they moved the one with the fish to a new plate, and left the vegetarian one now all smeared with masago in the older plate. On requesting again to have it fixed, the waiter (racist mofo!) came back in an aggressive tone asking us where the problem was? Got the roll replaced after putting our foot down, but you know where I won't spend a buck again! Avoid at all costs!
    I've passed by this place tons of times before, and never gave it much thought till tonight. I was in the mood for a bento box and Yo Yo Sushi was close by. I figured it would be a nice place for kicking back with an old friend I was meeting for dinner. The first thing we noticed was the lack of patrons. Granted, we're in a recession and it's a Thursday night...we figured there wouldn't be many people out eating at a place like this (not that it was upscale or anything). After reviewing our menus, we noticed how pricey the menu items were. Now, most Japanese/Sushi restaurants are a little on the pricey side, but this place was on the high end of the scale. In their defense, I will say that I did get my money's worth if I measured by the sheer amount of food they gave. For a bento box, I feel I got a lot more food that I normally do (when ordering a comparable bento box from another sushi restaurant). The quality of the food was excellent. I ordered a side of shrimp tempura to go along with my chicken teriyaki bento box, and each dish tasted wonderful. I particularly liked how fresh and tasty the tempura was, and the presentation was perfect. Why did I only give this place 1 star? Aside from the wonderful tasting (yet overpriced IMO) food, the service was terrible! From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, my friend and I felt as if our server was trying to get us to leave. And it wasn't like we were rowdy or being obnoxious. We were just sitting in a dark corner of the restaurant, quietly minding our business and eating great food. The whole time we were there, we felt a "hurry up and leave" vibe from the waitress, as she kept coming to our table asking if we were finished already. Keep in mind that this was happening less than 10 minutes after we were served our main courses. After politely telling her NO (for the 7th or 8th time), we actually caught her talking to her co-workers, making quiet remarks, snickering and pointing at me and my friend. Regardless of the subject, we found that to be EXTREMELY RUDE. Not exactly the way I wanted to end dinner. All in all, I would NOT recommend anyone to Yo Yo Sushi. The service was dreadful, and considering what you're paying for the experience, you're better off eating at another place.
    Slow Service, questionable quality. Not my favorite sushi place. I picked up some food to go here yesterday because, well, i was seeing a movie, had to get home, but wanted some sushi. The food took over 20 minutes to make. When I got it home, I found that the fish was not the best fish connective tissue was left in my rolls. I also ordered udon soup that said it had "chicken and vegetables" but when i got it home i found inside a mussel, squid, and "chicken" that looked SO DISGUSTING! this was not as advertised. I won't eat here again.
    I came here for a co-workers birthday party today. It was pretty crowded. I would give this place 2.5 stars. I ordered the Chicken Katsu dish and was amazed of the size of the chicken cutlet. It is literally twice the size of the portion of Better Bento. It came with miso soup, large side salad (which would make my doctor happy) Look I'm eating my veggies and a bowl of rice. How did it taste? -1.5 stars. It was a very dry piece of meat. Maybe it was dry because they waited to serve my meal. There were about 25 of us. So it might of sat around in the kitchen for awhile drying out under a heat source. The salad that came with it was fine with the default dressing. Katsu sauce tasted like bottled tonkatsu sauce. My co-workers also ordered pork and chicken katsu and they mentioned that it was dry as well. -1 star for bad service. Another co-worker ordered a specialty sushi dish "philly" roll. We had to ask the wait staff where his meal was. I think they forgot about it. So they apologized several times as he sat and waited for his meal. I think they should of brought something out while he was waiting, a side salad or edamame would of helped. But they didn't offer anything. Probably will never go back due to this type of service and the type of food. The only redeeming quality is the large portion of food. I saw their "don" (rice, egg, katsu) dish and that was huged. So it seems like the portion size is generous. It just depends on your taste, if you want authentic Japanese cuisine then this is not the place. You should go to Seto or Better Bento (home style).
    The bar at YoYo Sushi really is not about variety. For one, there was *no* sushi at the sushi bar! Whut?? I went at peak lunch time on a weekday and there was no sushi on the sushi boats. The only thing they had were a "variety" of what looked like only five types of rolls. No maguro. No toro. No unagi. Just plain rolls. That is very disappointing from a sushi place. Of course, you can order the sushi, but the guys behind the counter are too busy making rolls. And if you sit in the wrong place, you won't even get to talk to the guys. The sushi that I did get through a special order was OK, but I have had better. I also tried their Chicken Udon, which was nothing special. There are better places out there with better sushi selection.
    I went to the Yo Yo in Rivermark with a couple of office colleagues. The sushi was ok, yeah just ok. The service wasnt that great either. A friend of mine ordered a chicken dish. the chicken was deep friend and soggy. The rice was in a separate plate, I wonder how we were supposed to eat the rice. Its ok for a sushi place, but bad as a bar and grill, hence I give it 2 stars. I have had better sushi.
    Errands diverted me to this location for lunch, when I was expecting to come to Sushi Lovers, only to find that gone and a place called Yo Yo Sushi in its place. So first let me begin by saying RIP Sushi Lovers Mercardo (I wonder if the Milpitas location is still around) I jumped in as I was hungry and there wasn't anything remarkable food wise in the complex. The restaurant's name suggests either something to do with being insane in the membrane, a kid's toy that involves a round object and a string, or a fusion freestyle hip hop DJ sucka MC doing rolls and scratching at the same time. But sadly it is none of the above, all name and no kid n' play. From other yelp reviews and the little I could gather, the chefs/owners are definitely not Japanese, didn't look Korean. As I sat down, I watched a few sushi boats go by. These were more or less the items: - spider roll with wild carrot, cucumber, and some sort of crab filling, flying fish roe outside - fried shrimp roll with avocado layered on top, with mayo and srirracha spicy sauce spread across the roll lengthwise on top. - tuna nigiri and also seared tuna nigiri (no ponzu, just green onion on top). The regular tuna was dark red, very likely it was severely gassed. It looked like a dried blood stain marination. Perhaps before it was even gassed, the poor tuna might even have been mugged, bounded up, chicken raped, beaten and bitch slapped around a few times, before given the CO2 or NO2 or equivalent treatment. This kind of tuna would benefit greatly from being in rolls with other ingredients, or spiced up. This was a screaming alert to order rolls only, don't bother with nigiri here. There were variations of the above, maybe shrimp roll with salmon on top instead of avocado, or unagi. But the variety at the boats was appalling. The menu however has more than the boat offerings. Lots of appetizers, grilled/cooked items, and tons of fancy rolls that are not on the boats, but their names are not terribly original, like Caterpillar, or their exotic Sex on the Mountain (where else can you have Sex other than the Beach that's "creative?" How about Sex in the Sewer, or Sex on the Sushi Boat for a challenge?). Me thinks the boat section is just designed for the "creative" chefs to unload what they think are their best rolls. After looking at the selection on the boats for 5 mins, you can pretty much decide to move on or continue eating the same boring crap doing the rounds, as if they were BEGGING you to pick and eat them. Service is great when someone comes over, but I hardly saw a waitress after my order of tea was taken. They got me the bill fast, but they seem to be a bit short on staff. +1 star because this place is so close to Ben & Jerry's, where I gladly filled up the remainder of my stomach with a Coffee Mmm Mmm Buzz ice cream.
    Avoid this place! I ordered the Philadelphia rolls and avocado rolls. Only about 6 rolls came out for each which was fine. Other restaurants they give you 8 rolls. Whatever. I asked for tempura as a side order. I received it and it was great, however the price wasn't. When I got the bill I shocked that the tempura was $8.50 while my rolls were $6.95 and $3.95. I should have ordered the bento box for lunch instead of a la carte . Shame on me. I felt very rushed ordering and they didn't even bring a menu. They were overpriced for the crappy quality (my rolls were falling apart on my plate). Like another reviewer said, "Meh". I won't be going there again. They took my $20 for for a measly 10 rolls and some fried veggies.
    The actual only enjoyable part of my experience here was chatting up with my cousins and sister. The service was definitely "eh" nothing special. The food is way expensive. Dinner bento box for $17.95? PLUS, no free refils on fountain drinks? Talk about shady. I just settled with a $1.95 miso soup which was good and a $1.75 drink. Thanks, but no thanks yo yo sushi.
    Eh... not bad, just not spectacular. Some of the nigiri has been hit or miss. I keep coming back because our office is next door and its easy to come here for lunch. I might go for the bento box next time. The sushi "bar" is where they have the little boats floating with plates on them. So no choice, you eat what they put on the boats. I've always hated those kind of places.
    Holy sushi variety, batman. This is one of those sushi places that has like two dozen specialty rolls with photos... ahhh I miss Japan. I came here in a group that tried the volcano roll (awesome - _deep_ fried!) the bullet train roll (perfect avocado) and cherry blossom (decent salmon/avocado/tuna). The nigiri were less memorable. This included a fairly large serving of toro that was unfortunately colder than a married model getting hit on by silicon valley tech workers. Service was particularly good, as our server was quick and gave good suggestions. They also have Kirin on tap and are open until 10pm/11pm weekends. Not bad for strip mall sushi.
    I had dinner here last night out of laziness and a smidgen of desperation. Working in the south bay sucks the life out of me, and planning for dinner wasn't really on my agenda. I figured "this place is big and well lit, it can't be that bad". Well, not bad, just mediocre... I sat at the boats and grabbed 3 plates, and ordered a seaweed salad and a miso. Miso never showed and those 3 plates were all I ate because the fishes were not so good...
    I had a better experience than others. I think that's because we ordered a bunch of random dishes from the menu as well. The fish seemed fresh. Service was good. The rack of lamb was divine.
    Omfg. Seriously the worst sushi place I've ever been to. I went here not reading the yelp reviews (BIG MISTAKE!! =( ) only because I was craving sushi and I had time to kill before my movie started at the theater next door. The avocado seriously looked... BROWN. The avacado had BROWN in it.... I decided to shut my mouth and be nice... I took the avocado out and continued to eat my sushi roll. BIG MISTAKE. I literally drank my whole cup of water. I am a fierce sushi lover and places like this make me sick! Horrible service, Horrible food... NEVER COME HERE!!! And might I add I had horrible stomach pains throughout the WHOLE movie.. I couldn't even enjoy it. I had to leave the movie in the middle to save myself... =(
    This place is good; I would recommend the baked rolls. It gets very busy at lunchtime, so you might want to come at 11 or 1 or so. There is a good amount of space. The service is prompt. It makes me laugh because no one who works there is Japanese. I used to work there for a couple of months, and I enjoyed the food, although they told me not to eat off of the sushi boats around 2 because the sushi could have been sitting there fora while.
    I went there last night with my boyfriend before we watched a movie at AMC. Like Alex said, the sushi wasn't bad. The service however was just OK... because the two sushi chefs kept talkin in chinese... liek we didn't know what they're talking about... having their own inside jokes.. and complaining and all (not smart when the two people in front of you was talking in cantonese) when they heard us speak in canto.. they start talkin in mandarine... like we won't understand??? haha but other than that i'd reccommend to eat at this place before a movie.. that's about it...
    Went here hoping to find Sushi Lovers, but just like all the rest of them they were gone. In its place was Yo Yo Sushi. Since I came to this area to catch a film, thought I would try the place since I had some time before the movie. Sat at the boat and picked up a California roll and tempura roll. This should have been the first sign on how not fresh the food is here. The rice was not very cohesive meaning it was falling apart after picking it up and the ingredients tasted old. Because of this I thought I would order something off the menu so I ordered the pork tonkatsu and gyoza bento combo. It came out and they had made a mistake and gave me California rolls again. They came back out a second time with the right thing but this time the gyoza tasted like it was a steamed dumpling drenched with oil and barely fried. The tonkatsu tastes like it was day old and refried. The only thing that tasted right was the tea and the salad. Definitely will not be coming back here unless some how the sushi lovers franchise from a decade ago takes back the place.
    Worst sushi ever. I can't believe this place even gets business which is probably due to the lack of other choices in the area. This is the sushi place I go to when I'm too lazy to go anywhere else. I used to work in the plaza so I'd get a roll for lunch occasionally. I have never paid for the sushi here before because I usually get it for free from one of the guys and even though it's free food I can't bring myself to like it. And no, I don't feel bad for being an ungrateful brat who doesn't appreciate free food. I do appreciate the free food, I just think it's disgusting. It smells extremely fishy and does not taste fresh at all. The quality of the fish sucks and some of the rolls are smothered with disgusting, old chunks of avocado. It's also extremely expensive so if you're going to be spending money on a sushi restaurant I'd suggest you go somewhere else unless you're putting it as an expense on your company card.
    Food was OK but the service AND server NOT. The servers name was Candy. Basically the moment we stepped in the server completely gave us a rude 'sit there' attitude. We were hungry so we just let it go. But what really mattered was after we ate when we paid for our meal, (reminder one of us already added tip). As we were walking away she stopped us and rudely demanded for table tip! As we looked for change in our pockets and didn't have none SHE TOLD US TO PUT MORE TIP ON OUR ALREADY TIPPED RECEIPT!!! Since when does severs demand more table tip when we already tipped?! Seriously not coming back here because of that server.
    Came here with a friend after a movie at the AMC. It was not too crowded, but the waitress kept hovering and trying to rush us -- annoying! Sushi was ok i guess -- nothing to write home about. More than anything, it was the unfriendly service on a night that was clearly not too busy that was disappointing.
    I should of known better than to come here for Sushi. I had some california rolls and the avocado wasnt even fresh. The sashimi, dont even mentioned it. Worst thing of it all, I had the worst food poisoning ever!!!!!!!! It was so bad that I couldnt even stand up. I was lying on the floor puking, my friend who was with me during this almost called the ambulance! CRAP SUSHI!
    We had good service last night during Valentine's dinner. The staff was attentive, although they didn't ask if we wanted another beer. I got a glass of Hefeweizen on tap and it was fresh. We ordered the tonkatsu bento box, maui roll, california roll, krispy roll, aloha roll and agadashi tofu. The tonkatsu was a little overcooked and chewy. The waitress pulled the California roll off of the sushi boat. The other rolls were pretty good. The tuna in the maui roll was a nice red color. The salmon on the aloha roll was fresh. Service was quick and attentive. I have been here a few times before and the service was slow, so it might have just been b/c last night was Valentine's that the service was better.
    I didn't even want to leave 1 star. This place sucks ASS! I took my kids to AMC mercado to watch "9" Such a great movie.. We got hungry so I thought this place was convienent, why not? As soon as we sat down the waitress was a total B I T C H yes a total bitch! She was rude to my kids, rude to my sister, and tried to be rude to me, but I quickly put her in check. The prices are waaaaaaaaaaay over priced for such mediocre sushi.. the pictures are wonderful on the menu. The servings are huge. I got a child's Box for my 10 year old thinking it would be a perfect serving. When it arrived it was the size of "adult" sized box. Then when we went to pay, she grabbed the money before we left, totally bumping into my daughter not saying anything and walked away... Id highly skip this place...
    Run and hide. The fish might kill you. The sushi boats has dried sushi that's been sitting there for a long time. They over-baked one of my special rolls. The ebi they gave me was all mutilated. The oysters I ordered were not good at all. Overall it was a bad experience, the prices are not good. This place is not good. Don't come. If you must eat sushi, go catch some fish at the little pond nearby and eat that raw, might taste better.
    Overpriced and low quality. That's what I'd use to describe Yo-Yo sushi. I came here because I was waiting for my movie to start and I could get filled up from the items on the sushi boat pretty quickly. However, I didn't anticipate the plates of unappetizing sushi that drifted before me. The sushi were small, and the sashimi looked like it's been out for days. Seeing that the sushi boat weren't that fresh, I ordered a couple of rolls off the menu. The rolls were equally small and bland. Trust me, don't come here if you're looking for a good sushi experience. The only thing worth mentioning is that they have 3 or 4 large TV's hanging around, so you could watch tv while you eat.
    We headed to Rivermark on New Year's Day because our destination and our back-up were both closed. We ended up here because, well, it was open! The restaurant had a funny smell to it, like cleaning supplies. I guess it's clean but it was kinda strong. The service was great, several ladies waited on us and they were all very friendly, smiled, and were attentive. The food was okay. My husband and I got a few different sushi rolls to share, but didn't sit at the boat bar (or whatever you call it) because those rolls looked... well, old and expensive. The ones we had were good. Way too expensive for what we got. I guess that goes with being at Rivermark. All of the entrees looked good but were way more than what I was willing to spend! All, in all, 2.5 stars, almost 3.
    I guess it's a good thing that I don't come around here often. I'm not a fan of smoked salmon in my philly roll, and they messed up on my nigiri order. Come to think of it, every time I've gotten nigiri here, I'd always have to send it back because it wasn't what I ordered. At least the dynamite roll made up for it. What I can't believe is that they don't give refills on soda. If they served it in a can then it's understandable, but no refills on fountain soda? What gives?! Things have definitely changed around here.
    Even thought I'm not a big fan of Sushi due to food allergies, there are some food on the menu that I love. This place is clean and it doesn't smell like a typical sushi place. Whenever I go here, I always order the Bento Box. I get a chicken katsu and veggie tempura. Depending on who is in the kitchen, the food either comes out freshly cooked or freshly heated out of a microwave. It's a hit or miss and that is frustrating especially when I pay $20+ for their dinner price. They do give a generous portion, but I don't want it if it's bad food. It's a convenient location from my house and that's why I go there. However, I've gotten frustrated with the mediocre quality and the exuberant prices.
    The only good thing about this place was the service, it was quick but then again no one was there. there was barely any sushi on the boats despite it being close to dinner time, and the ones that were on the boat was less the mediocre. The fish smelled and the texture was slimy, aslo the price was a little high for the quality of sushi.
    My favorite sushi place as it has some unique sushi that's my favorite: * crunchy roll - crunchy spicy tuna * sunshine roll (MUST GET) - salmon with a hint of lemon dragon roll, etc..are good too. I guess they don't have very good basic/authentic sushi, which is why they have lower ratings, but I love this place for the sushi mentioned above and we go there again and again for it.
    I sometimes get food here if I am in a hurry at lunch time. The sushi is mediocre. The soy sauce they give you also isn't very good. Avoid the spinach peanut roll unless you like peanut butter in your sushi. There is a vegetable tempura roll that is sometimes good, but it seems hit and miss. The last time I ordered, there was a little piece of meat (slightly larger than a grain of rice) stuck to the bottom of one of my vegetarian rolls.
    You know it's bad even when white people start giving this place shitty reviews. Come in for someones birthday dinner, and i think to myself ,"Hm this is probably another one of those asian places that tries to make itself look really modern and ends up tasting like shit" SURPRISE, word for word never been so right. OVERPRICED, for every single roll i saw and extremely not worth the 6 dollars for fucking 4 fried ebi rolls, yes 4. not to mention the "sex on a mountain" roll. what the fuck is a sex on a mountain roll how about they just tell us how shitty the roll is and stop trying to cover up with some "clever" name. Service, F. the servers im sure dont want tip since these bitches didnt even take my order for about 25 minutes and guess what, yeah dead empty. definitely recommend this place if you love eating bland shitty food.
    Salmon Bento Box- 10 Fuji Volcano - 10 Service- 8 Environment- 9 Once I sank my teeth into a Fuji Volcano I knew I was in love. Baked to perfection, this ever so lovely dish seriously caught me by surprise by its unique combination of flavors. I always have pleasant experiences whenever I eat here, the food is never as lowsey as some of these reviews. Yes the waitresses can be a little rude and hard to understand because of a cultural and language barrier, but if you go in there with a smile and an open mind you will soon appreciate the waitresses not speaking good English. Plus, I would never order sushi from a place if the waitresses spoke perfect English. Lol... I mean, c'mon people. Asian restaurant- Asian servers, the host is a different story... LOL. N. E Wayz... This place is one of the Better "mainstream" Sushi Restaurants in the Silicone Valley offering a very wide Saki selection which is especially handy on those nights your feeling like a Saki Bomber. Ted and Sandi are still doing an excellent job at providing great tasting food at an affordable price...
    Huge portions.. not much taste.. So so sushi. My friend took me to this place because it was convenient and the portions are large enough for her to take leftovers home to her hubby. She did not recommend the sushi. We bypassed the sushi boat section that had boats circling despite the fact there were no customers at that counter. I think the same boats were still circling when we left. The wait staff and other workers appeared to be a bit under the weather and 4 days later ...we both ended up with similar symptoms to what they were displaying. I will never go back here. The food was not great and food service managers should know better than to let employees showing symptoms handle employees food.
    not the worst or the best, but will do when you want some sushi. would steer clear of the beef teriyaki, impossibly chewy. service was good - frequent and timely.
    Don't bother. Slow, uneventful, and overpriced. The atmosphere is ok. But this is yet another "Japanese" sushi bar with uninformed Mandarin-speaking people running it. The rolls were mediocre. The fish wasn't very fresh. Try Hanamaru in Sunnyvale, instead. Or, save your money and go to the Ben & Jerry's next door for some delicious creamy iced cow fat. Went in for Lunch. Spent $10 for a Rainbow roll. For $3, sushi from Safeway will give you more bang for your buck. It will also be fresher to boot.
    Let me start this review by saying that I may be bias because I prefer things that are authentic and a chinese owned japanese restaurant is just not authentic to me! :) The low carb roll is pretty good but they were kinda deceiving about the cherry blossom roll since on the menu it looks like a cherry blossom but when they served it, it looked like a regular roll. boo! Also their drinks are kinda weak. I ordered a mango martini and it tasted like mango juice! The Rivermark Yo Yo Sushi is much better!
    This place reminds me of a restaurant that you'd see on Kitchen Nightmares. The only reason I ate here was because my old boss used to take us out here to eat every now and then. Even the thought of eating here for free made me uncomfortable. First thing you see when you walk in is a huge sushi boat with no one at it. Then the dining area itself is pretty large and also pretty empty. I can't imagine what it's like in the back. There's no way that this place uses fresh fish to accommodate this kind of space with no customers. Not only was the fish inedible but the COOKED entrees like Chicken Terryaki was absolutely disgusting. The chicken was dry with no flavor at all and the sauce for it was sour. Another sign of frozen food thats been sitting around for days. To make things worse, this place is expensive. It's pretty much the same price as other quality sushi restaurants. AVOID THIS PLACE.
    Shrimp tempura excellent. Miso soup ok. Service below average. Floating boats of sushi not as cool as it sounds.
    This is not a place I would write home about, but if you just happen to be around Mercado and want some sushi rolls, maybe this isn't such a bad choice. I've been there twice -- once seated at the tables and the other time at the sushi bar. The sushi bar isn't too bad and it has a good variety of rolls. It satisfies the basic craving, but if you're asking for good sushi, this isn't the place to be in.
  • Somala A.
    Came here for a quick lunch. I didn't like their sushi. It didn't taste fresh. The salmon was bland and felt warm and squishy (like it had been sitting out for a very long time). The rolls were just ok. I don't think I would come here again.
    This place isn't as bad as I've been reading up on the reviews. Unfortunately, there aren't many places to eat by AMC 20, so people choose this sushi place to meet up at for a quick bite. A simple martini and a simple sushi roll isn't too much to ask from this place but the bill does add up pretty fast here. Its not the best, but definitely not the worst sushi place around, if the service was better, my rating would go up a star.
    (3)
  • Melanie D.
    A coworker recommended this place. It's only okay. The service is distant - we had to ask twice for our bill. The food is discouraging, as you watch the same sushi rolls come at you over and over again on the boats. I ordered a roll off the menu and it was made in no time at all and was slightly cold, making me wonder if it was pre-made and refrigerated? Overpriced for what it is.
    I had dinner before a movie here, the sushi was so horrible. The fish seem stale and been sitting for a minute. Not a recommendation for a sushi spot, even if you're starving.
    This is where I go to get my sushi fix close to home. They serve fresh "fusion sushi" -- sushi that has non-traditional ingredients, but you have to order it so that they make it fresh, otherwise it sits in the boat. Most of the items in the boats are the ones that everyone orders. You won't see too many of the special ones on there. I like the Happy roll, which is wrapped in cucumber, instead of rice! This is not your average sushi restaurant because, not only do they have a full-service bar, they have happy hour specials on well drinks, beer and SAKE! They also have special sake cocktails and other drinks. They have flat panel TVs that are usually playing ESPN, so you can enjoy your favorite sports show while sitting at the sushi bar. The sushi bar has the boats that go around, so freshness is hit-or-miss at the bar. There is also a Yo Yo Suchi at the Rivermark, about 3 miles away.
    If you read my other reviews, you'll see that perhaps I am a tad generous with stars compared to other reviewers. I would rather round up than down if I'm undecided on number of stars. So when I rate this restaurant a one star, it's pretty clear what I think of this restaurant. I went to lunch with my co-worker and I was thinking a quick bite to eat at a little sushi boat place would be good. We headed here and got seated immediately at the bar. We started chatting but it wasn't too long that I noticed a few things: (1) about half the boats were empty (2) the boats that had sushi were the ones that had been sitting there for quite some time (3) a BIG drowned bug floated past us in the slow moving river (4) the chefs were busy making a bunch of sushi - but NONE of it made it on to the boats (5) the place was dirty (6) extra wasabi and ginger were placed into containers on some of the boats. there were no little spoons or serving utensils in the container so it's clear that you had to use your own chopsticks to get some of the wasabi and ginger. How many people do you think know that they should be turning their chopsticks upside down to keep from spreading their germs? (yes, I would bet I'm in the minority group here) So, then I ask our server, Um, Hi! There's no sushi coming out on the boats. Her answer is: "Yes, that is why we tell you to order off the menu." Let me ask you, why have a sushi boat bar area if you are not going to use it? Ah, I think I know the answer. This used to be Sushi Lovers many years ago and they had the sushi boat thing going and I guess this business just inherited as part of the place. At the end of the meal, I mentioned to our server "Hey, just to let you know, there are no utensils in the wasabi and ginger containers which could be a serious health issue if people stick their chopsticks in there." Her answer was "Oh, that container must just be missing its utensils." I told her "Look carefully. None of the containers have any utensils and I've had plenty of time to look at the boats." ONE STAR. And I think that is generous. I won't be back ever!
    We got the Dragon roll and some Uni... it was decent but overpriced. The waiters were no social butterflies but they were prompt. One of my rolls actually had a small piece of plastic in it, I notified the chef just so they can be aware and not to get a free dinner. After doing that the waitress seemed to get a little less friendly with us. We wont be coming back again....
  • Katlyn M.
    Dude, is this place owned by Chinese or something? Just cuz they have pretty pictures of all the sushi on the menu doesn't mean they can charge high prices. The sushi sucks. I had the dragon roll and it friggin had carrot sticks in it??? wtf??? lol The eel on top tasted old and looked mushi. Then the salmon roll had salmon that looked and tasted really weird, like fake salmon or something. It was pink and white! Ordered a mango mojito that they charged $8 for, and it was bland and weak. I make better mango mojitos than that! I wouldn't go back unless I'm desperate. I take that back, not even!
    Had a quick dinner in the Sushi Bar area and noticed the area was not very clean at all. There were green stains in the water where the boats were running....eeew! and the floors were not sweeped at all. My nephew dropped his toy and when i picked it up... the floor was dirty..so of course that didnt help my appetite at all. The sushi on the boats did not look fresh...so i would recommend for you to order your sushi.
    Overview: Americanized-style sushi roll and bento restaurant. I had the chicken teriyaki. I figure that's pretty hard to screw up. Boy, I had the worst chicken teriyaki of my life. The chicken was tough and unflavorful. They do give a huge portion, which would is a plus, but when it's this bad, more is less. I didn't have any sushi, but my friends that did said it was fine. So I'm giving them 3 for sushi and 1 for chicken.
    Yet again another yo yo sushi that had BAD SERVICE. I ordered food to go and went to pick it up. The host was standing there and just looked at me, didn't say hello or even acknowledge me for anything! 15 minutes later I went to her and asked for my ordered which on the phone said it would take 20 minutes to cook, and where I was making the call it should've been done by then. Didn't receive any utensils. I was so frustrated, I gave her a piece of my mind. Don't get my wrong, I might have been a little too much to handle, but I'm in hospitality management and to be ignored for that long and have bad service, that's just ridiculous
    Decent Japanese place but wouldn't go out of my way for it. It's convenient if you're going to watch a movie at nearby AMC.
  • Rachel G.
    I can here only because I was watching a movie next door. I had been here once before when it first opened and my experience was crap then and was crap again. I thought I would give them a second chance since it was so long ago. BIG MISTAKE!!! The service was horrible. The servers were all rude and gave so much attitude. The girl got my order wrong and then proceeded to talk about me with her co worker claiming I don't know what I want. This after they didn't have what I originally ordered...the hamachi kama. Their prices are insane and worst of all no refills on drinks other than water. I don't think I've ever been anywhere that didn't give refills. Shoot even mc donalds refills!! I will never come here again. Do yourself a favor and get dinner somewhere else before catching a movie.
    When taken into context, that this is not supposed to be an authentic Japanese dining experience, so I think they do an excellent job at serving "American Japanese style food" and had an impressive-sized sushi boat bar. I'm not into plates on boats, though, so we sat at a table. First off, they have Kirin Ichiban on TAP. I could give them five stars just for that. Sushi with beer is like peanut butter with jelly. And Kirin, in my opinion, really is the "number one" for sushi. I ordered the Nigiri Mix for dinner, which I thought was a very reasonable price (less than $14) which came with Miso soup and a very nice mixed green salad. I wound up with nine pieces of really big portions of very fresh fish. Two of which were Hamachi, my absolute favorite for flavor and texture. The pieces were big enough that they took two bites to consume, and I can take pretty big bites... Anyways they also game a generous amount of pickled ginger to cleanse the palette between fishes, which was perfect. My wife had the vegetable udon, which came in a huge bowl and the noodles were long, fat and chewy, which is different than I am used to, but an excellent experience. Very "al dente". Service was friendly, fast, and efficient and we sat in a comfortable booth. Some things on the menu that I did not get to try were the numerous appetizers and grilled items. The pictures of the "fusion" rolls didn't look very appealing to me, so I can't comment on their quality, but I would definitely go back for the Nigiri and a movie next door.
    I don't think it's possible to find a restaurant with worse service or worse food. Rush here if you'd like to have the lowest possible quality of food, the poorest possible choice in a sushi boat, or the slowest, rudest, and most hostile possible service. Extra points if you like to over-pay for all of the above.
  • Brit C.
    Awful! I thought I escaped bad sushi when I left VA. Needless to say, I didn't. The fish was fishy, the eel was bony, the spicy scallop roll was too saucy, and the miso soup was lumpy. Aside from the less than fresh seafood, the sushi boat selection was far from complete. And, to top it off, our meal was overpriced. I will never eat here again.
    We went to Yo Yo Sushi this evening for dinner, even after noting the ratings here on Yelp. We were a party of 3 adults and a small child. First, as parents of a picky eater, we thank Yo Yo's staff for having absolutely no problem with us bringing in our son's food. We want to eat at places that don't serve grilled cheese and nuggets, and very much appreciate venues that allow us to do that and still eat as a family. I awarded an extra star on that alone. The food is generously portioned. We WAY over-ordered not expecting to be served so much. Our order consisted of a tempura sampler, gyoza, a dinner bento box of tempura and terriyaki chicken, an order of California rolls, a spider roll and a sushi sampler plate. The soup was delicious, the tempura wonderful and we brought home 3 containers because we just didn't anticipate being served so much food. Tasty leftovers are a bonus. We brought home things that would keep well, munching all of the tempura on the spot. The service lost them a star. Our waitress asked if we were ready to order and before we could open our mouths, walked away from the table. We sat there puzzled for a couple of additional minutes before she came back. Our food was served in a rather bizarre order... we received our soups and our gyoza, but our sushi came well after our main dishes had been delivered. Our waitress never checked back with us, never refilled our water, never made sure our entire order had arrived. Overall, we'll probably go back - especially if we're in need of a tempura fix, but I believe we'll be taking our food to go to avoid the mediocre service.
    It wasn't a bad place, but it was not cheap sushi, reasonable, but not cheap! The rolls were regular size, nothing monstrous to say ooh wow about.. My old Elementary friend ( yeh you heard it back in the old school!!) and I met up here, and had lunch on a thursday. The waitress was quick to get our check, cause I think they wanted to seat more people, so we felt rush. If you into shopping or a movie, and want a quick bite of sushi, then it's not a bad place. Miso soup was pretty good, but nothing to rave about. All in all, it was not a disappointment, but will I CHOOSE to come back , no, but if it's convenient, then I would come again.
    No No Sushi! I wasn't at all impressed with this restaurant. The quality of food left a little something to be desired. I tried the beef teriyaki bento box w/ tempura. The portions were small, lacked flavor(even tho drenched in teriyaki sauce) and basically were subpar. The salad dressing was watery and the miso soup powdery. It was a hot day, I was feeling lazy and chose convenience over quality(TGI Sushi). At least I was in good company! 1 star for the bar!
    Worst sushi place in the bay area! Got three rolls, yo yo spinner roll, rainbow roll, and sunshine roll. All three was horrible! Little sashimi, and just tasted horrible. Will not go there again!
    Their beef terriyaki and plum beef were without a doubt the worst cut of meat I have ever had in a restaurant (sent it back and got the terriyaki and got more of the same). Obviously, the owners were trying to buy the cheapest cut of meat they could find. When you're paying $14 for the terriyaki, you shouldn't get the 99c/pound stew meat that they're throwing away at the chinese grocery. And no, it wasn't overcooked. It was just the chewiest, most inedible beef I've ever had in a restaurant. Sushi bar/boat is awful too. This place was better under a previous incarnation.
    When you come here you should know what you're getting into. The nigiri will disappoint. The seaweed salad was good, but waaaaay too expensive and probably just from 99 ranch. Many of the rolls will disappoint with mediocre fish and lots of rice, so you may wonder, why oh why would I give it 3 stars. Well gentle reader, the grilled scallops were excellent, for 9 bucks I got two skewers of fair sized juicy tender perfectly grilled scallops which made up for the rest of the lackluster meal
    Through the years since I started eating sushi, I've slowly steered clear from the "sushi on a boat going around" places. You may say I've become a sushi snob. But I have to say, this place wasnt too bad - you definitely get what you pay for though. Not so fresh fish, but decent rolls that were pretty tasty. Would I go back again? Hmm...we'll see.
    For the Rivermark location: I've eaten here almost a dozen times. It's just minutes from where I live. I always order the beef teriyaki. My dad orders the Saba. My mom is the only one who orders something different every time. The food has been consistent. The beef teriyaki is always good, it's never been overcooked but tender and juicy. Same for the Saba. Mom has ordered the tempura, Sea Bass, Shrimp. No complaints. Service is good. We have always been seated quickly and the servers are attentive and friendly, even when it was busy. Downside... it is slightly pricey but not too bad. The desserts are the only thing subpar. The Chocolate trio tasted old.
    I don't know what these reviewers want. The service is great, food is fresh, well prepared and presented. We sat in a booth on a Saturday night and were very comfortable. The price is acceptable, very competitive. All in all a very pleasant experience.
  • Tyleq R.
    The food isn't that good. Actually, I found it real disappointing. The chicken used for katsu was super dry and my sushi was not worth the price. It was just mush held together with rice basically. I feel like they are way overpriced for such low quality food. I paid 9 dollars for a roll that came with 5 pieces and wasn't even appetizing. Not going back.
    FOOD: the gyoza wasn't crunchy how I'm used to. They seemed steamed then pan fried which I'm sure is healthier but if you prefer more crunch then don't order them but the wrap was thin at least like gyoza is usually made. Fisherman roll was yummy. No raw for me so anything baked such as this roll is for me. The salmon wasn't excessively fishy so I know it was fresh enough and cooked through. Hot tea tasted good it was a rice tea. STAFF: only two other parties there and two people working. Server was attentive so no complaints on service. She took our drink orders and kept an eye out for when we looked ready to order. Took empty plates away. Refilled my tea. The other server said bye and thank you too when we left. TV: two of them but only one was on since half the restaurant was empty. BOATS: not many but it was 5:45 when we got there and it wasn't busy so to me that's understandable. OVERALL: ok, not bad, but nothing overly great.
  • Michelle L.
    You know it's already a bad sign when there is barely anyone in the restaurant at 6:30pm on a Saturday and the restaurant is located in a very busy plaza. We chose to sit at the bar and while we were waiting to order, I grabbed a roll only to discover it tasted like cardboard. It no longer tasted fresh as if it had been sitting on the boat for awhile. I ordered a dragon roll and my boyfriend ordered a sashimi dinner. We ordered gyoza as appetizer. Gyoza came out but we didn't finish the whole thing because the taste was off. My boyfriend complained the sashimi did not taste fresh -- the only piece that tasted fresh was the salmon. The dragon roll I ordered tasted pretty dull. It wasn't terrible but it was definitely below average. Not sure we'd come back again.
    yucky- I am sorry, but I felt sick after eating at Yo-yo :( it wasn't very fresh and it was just not good quality raw sushi. To me this is scary, I could have had food poisoning had I ate the wrong fish :/
    What we got: -Dragon roll -Fisherman roll -Rainbow roll The rolls were not bad at all. Good but not amazing. The service was also good but not amazing. Pretty run of the mill sushi spot. What I highly do NOT recommend is their Chocolate Trio dessert. It tasted like refrigerator. 'nough said.
    Some coworkers took me here while I was on business travel. What I was hoping for was something that would fill my gluttonous needs while satisfying my craving for some sushi. The gluttony part was spot on. The craving was mildly satisfied. I got the Sushi Mix lunch. The size of the sushi was fantastic. I got large cuts and was happy with the portion. I was not ecstatic about the taste of the sushi itself. It didn't seem as fresh as it could have been since we were so close to the coast. Soup and salad were tasty so no complaints there. Service was as expected in a sushi joint during the lunch rush. Nothing to rave about but at least there wasn't saliva in my sushi.
    $120.00 for 3 ppl. 1) Spicy Salmon roll, not fresh they pulled it from the sushi boat line. Not good 2) Nigiri sushi, tuna, hamachi, scallop, salmon. Tuna not good, looked like the cheap est quality where they scrape off the excess fish from bones, add food coloring and reform it. Fish not fresh. Fishy tasting. 3) salad: huge portion, standard bagged salad mix with version of thousand island dressing 4) spinach ohitashi: huge portion, was better than the other dishes. home made with spicach stems. Best item in the lot. Good value. Was ok if you like huge portions at expense of lower quality. Pricey for what we got. Strong in cooked bento box style lunches where things are standard dishes like Chicken Teriyaki. Those dishes are 4 stars for value/quality. Raw fish not good quality. Low end.
    I would never come here again! The rice on the sushi was not fresh at all. It kind of smell weird. The price for the sushi is pretty expensive since the type of sushi they serve was not all that great. All six of my rolls felt they were made by quantity over quality. Btw before I left the restaurant, the waitress Diana was talking smack about my girlfriend and I in kantonese. (out loud in the restaurant). NEVER again will I have my business here again, especially for that last part.
    I've got to say, it wasn't that good of an experience, although I am happy to say, the waitresses were very nice, attentive, and professional. (I give them 4 stars). They were the best thing going on tonight. I almost hate to write something "tepid", about this establishment, but I have to say something to have good conscious. The food was that side of mediocre. I ordered the beef teriyaki - it was way overcooked, hard, and quite frankly, tastless. The teriyaki glaze tasted straight out of the bottle. The shrimp tempura tasted oily and tasted bland. The dipping sauce tasted out of the bottle too. The dumplings were soggy and tasted like out of a bag. The spicey tuna tasted like it was imitation fish. Wow! Not at all what I expected. What's going on? The food used to have taste and was allot fresher the last time I came in. (About a month ago). I'd like to say that it was late, near closing, etc.., but that would indicate stale food, and no regard for their customers. It was quite pricey considering the quality, or should I say, lack of quality of the food. (Not impressed at all). : ( : ( : ( I truly apologize for my words, but maybe this will give management a wake up call concerning the quality of food they present. Management, please consider my words and make some changes. (Quickly)!!!
    This place doesn't open on time. If a sign says 11am why am I waiting outside of the business while they're still mopping and prepping sushi? Say 11:30 then, it's very important that businesses open when they say so because people have limited lunch hours. I don't appreciate them making eye contact with me and not giving me an update. That can totally change it all, talk to your customers people!!!!! They looked at me three times. I decided to leave after waiting 15min. On a side note their sushi isn't that good, it's poor quality I was just I'm the area.
    It was my first time there and I plan to go back for more! The staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive, and the food was fresh, full of flavor, and well balanced. We were early for our SC Convention event, and took the opportunity to visit the close-by restaurant. The place was attractive, clean, and the noise level was low, even considering that it filled up as noon approached: we did not even realize that the place was packed, until we finished and started making our way out! The other patrons were also clearly enjoying themselves - it was a nice, clean decor, but it felt like they were all at home also enjoying the service and the food. In addition to very fine green tea and the perfectly done edamame, we had three menu items - even though were were full after two! . All three were excellent and recommendable - what I recall especially are the requisite, but nicely flavorful Dragon roll and their exquisite Sashimi YoYo. Great for a quick lunch, as well as for a lingering, relaxing experience. Plan is to go back and try more of their offerings, including dinner ;-0
    Sadly, this place didn't have a many good reviews but we decided to give it a try anyways because there's wasn't much choices at AMC 20 mercado (cinema) and we didn't feel like fast food that day. Food I honestly only tried the nabeyaki chicken & tempura udon ($14) so I might be biased to how well that one dish was done. I thought it was pretty decent. The udon was thick and chewy! Yummy! The soup base was not too sweet (unlike some others I've had before). They also had the good sense to separate the tempura from the soup so it doesn't get soggy before it came to our table. Service It was pretty good. They kept refilling our tea without us having to ask. Hope to see more people give this place a second chance!
    Convenient location if your going to the movies. Not a lot of folks eating last night at 7pm. Decor kinda plain. Dimly lit. Staff was nice and attentive. Items ordered: miso soup, salmon roll, yellow tail roll, crunchy roll and crispy yo nuggets. All items were tasty but not mouth watering causing you to want more. Perfect place if your rushing to have dinner before the movie.
    I wouldn't go to this place again ever. The rice didn't taste very fresh. The texture was as if it was cooked more than 3 hours prior. The wasabi and ginger they provided was also of poor quality. The fish cuts were okay, but not sliced very well. For sushi, this place is fairly expensive. The staff can also take a while to respond to what you might need. I am from Hawaii and have had good good sushi before so I may be biased, but when it comes to sushi, every aspect really does count: the rice, ginger, wasabi, shoyu, fish cuts, etc.
    Their food is decent. It wasn't bad but it wasn't overly good either. Just kind of in the middle. HOWEVER, this is why they get 4 stars: Their lunch box came with A LOT of meat. More them most sushi places give, and its about the same price ~11.95. I left super stuffed. The location is really nice. They offer an enjoyable eating atmosphere. Lastly and most importantly, their service ROCKS! The waitress was always so quick to refill our drinks. Even after we finished eating and already paid the bill. She even brought my daughter a free ice cream!! I see there are a lot of one star review on the bottom. Perhaps they weren't good at one point, but maybe they changed because I can't imagine them deserving a one star from my own personal experience.
    When We walked in there were only a few people. Salad was ok, if it had been cold it might have been better. The portions were large and the Sushi was good. Not the best I've ever had, but good. An average place but not the modern Sushi restaurant you might expect.
    Standard enough sushi place, at least with regards to the vegetarian rolls and bento box options. I came with a couple of friends for a late lunch after seeing a movie, and the rolls I had were pretty good. The peanut sauce is an excellent addition to the spinach roll, and really makes that roll worth while! Otherwise the avocado roll, shitake roll, and vegetable tempura roll are all what you'd get at about any other American-style sushi place. The bento boxes my companions got were generously sized and they seemed to enjoy them, too :) The waitress was pretty attentive and seemed almost OCD about making sure water and green tea were topped off, which I certainly can't complain about :) Then again, there weren't too many in the restaurant at around 2:30ish, so this may not be representative of the usual service there.
    I saw a bunch of bad reviews for this place. I'm here to say that this place is not horrible. It has it's work cut out for them though. First off the food is not bad. I didn't try too much food but what I did try was not bad. What this place really falls is the service. My friends had ordered and the food didn't come for about an hour. I have no idea why the service took so long, they weren't even that packed. One of the waitresses ignored me when I tried to ask for some more ginger. If this place wants some positive reviews, they gotta start with the service.
    This rating base on the sushi only . I did not try other stuffs. the sushi is overpriced and low quality, that is all I can say.
    I have never experienced such a chaotic lunch in my life! They never took our order we had to try to get the waitresses attention numerous times. She practically ran by so numerous times we had to say excuse me before we got her attention. once we got our order they messed up on our order the sushi guy was yelling across the room at the waitress. My six scallops for $9.95 were rubbery. They serve your roll without ginger or whassabi so again i had to practically jump out of my chair to get someone and when I asked for it I was told, add if I was stupid, its was on the sushi boat which was confusing because when I looked there was nothing coming around on the sushi boats. There weren't any boats! So I waited and they had maybe four little boats coming around when there should or could fit 50 little boats it took us forever to order. Very frusterating we had to flag her down everytime we needed something but once we were close to our last bite she brought the bill but then she kept coming over and trying to get us to pay as if she was rushing us out... Which was annoying. This is by far the most chaotic crazy sushi place I've ever been in my life and I will not be going back ever! $40.10 for 1 white Tuna roll 1 scallops 2 sashimi white tuna 1 salad and edamami. Pretty pricey!
    Customer service is really poor. There were two waitresses and they both looked exhausted. It looked like they spent the entire day at Disneyland, and we're too tired to even pick up their feet when they walked. I watched both of them bring a tea pot to a table and you would think that the pot weighed thirty pounds. Neither of them smiled much, except to the sushi guy. But toward the customers a total lack of emotion. I wanted to leave as soon as the food was served, I felt so uncomfortable. I am on the road quite often and I eat out a lot. This place just ruined any food I ate and I am looking forward to it leaving my body. All I want from the restaurant service are friendly smiles and appreciation that I am in their place. I felt like these women hated me. Like maybe I look like their ex-boyfriend. Worst I ever felt in any restaurant in my entire life. On an up-note the food would have been really good. The grilled salmon was cooked perfectly. However, I would have enjoyed it more eating it at the fish market, because at least there someone would smile at me.
    the 2 stars says it, mehhhhh... I've experienced better. Ordered the dynamite roll (definitely had better elsewhere- never had it with 'fish sauce' it had too much of a fishy taste for my preference) Ordered the Cherry blossom roll and another roll (forgot what kind since it wasn't as good-had a carrot in it?) Who knows how long the sushi has been out on those sushi boats. Buffet sushi tastes better than this place. Word of advice.. skip this place.
    The sushi was old (not fresh) and tasteless. Presentation was lacking. Staff was nice, the only upside. Look for something else, trust me :)
    There's something wrong about a place that has only two sets of. customers at 1:00 on a Saturday. And now I know why. I ordered the chicken teriyaki sashimi Bento box. My three pieces of sashimi was mushy and had that frozen and then thawed texture. Not good quality at all. But worse was the service. First of all they spoke loud Cantonese. I cannot stand Japanese restaurants run by non Japanese. We also were the only two people at the sushi boat/ bar. Selection was limited. The sushi "chef" just stood around staring I to space. Never once did he ask if we wanted something hand made. I've never felt so unwelcome in all my life at a sushi bar. What happened to the pride of being a sushi chef? Obviously there is a cultural loss of translation. With so many options at the mercado, I'm going to take my business elsewhere.
    We didn't get any service at the Italian restaurant across the way so came here. Service here is fast, friendly and consistent. I had a Bento box, I liked it, a lot of food. My husband had a roll, pretty good, we then scoffed our face with Sushi Boat. I love sushi boat, I cannot resist putting some kind of item on a boat and watch it float round and come back, what can I say..........small things amuse small minds. Will probably come back here. Price reasonable.
    1 reluctant star, strictly for the friendly service alone... The ebi role was so damn mushy, I could've dunked it in my glass & sucked it through a thick tapioca straw. Nice visual ehh? I ALWAYS check Yelp first though on this one 'rare exception', I trusted my coworkers suggestion as we've had an 'ok' experience @ the Rivermark location. Restaurant was HUGE yet there was less than 7 people total during peak lunch hours. This in itself should've been a tell-tale sign though we were already through the doors & at the point of no return... I spent 31 mutha-fn-dollars for 1 rainbow roll, 1 salmon skin roll & 1 ebi roll. Had I known prior that I'd be shelling out that much cash for defrosted, translucent fishy-smelling sushi, I would've happily taken a drive over to Tanto off El Camino Real. Pro's: 1. Extremely sticky tables. So sticky, they'd have no issues whatsoever stopping ants, roaches & possibly even mice dead in their tracks (keeping them out of your bento box). 2. If you've lost all your teeth, get the Ebi roll & have them 'hold the baby carrot sticks'. If you love soft, mushy sushi, this place will definitely be your cup of tea. Forget the chopsticks & have them serve the sushi in a glass with a straw like a milkshake. Mmmm mmm good... 3. If you want to 'clean your insides', order the miso soup as it literally taste like dishwater. If it's good enough for dishes, surely it's good enough for your intestinal track... 4. If you're in a rush, go here as you will be served immediately. No wait & tables galore. 5. If you've somehow ingested poison, come to Yo Yo as anything on the menu would be a safe bet to immediately induce vomiting. In case you haven't already guessed, Yo Yo in itself is a 'hint' that what goes down your throat is sure to come back up (& out), just like a yo-yo... Con's: What con's? I have nothing but positive things to say...
    I went here on a Saturday night. There was only one waitress working who was literally RUNNING around the restarant. Service was incredibly slow. I ordered a beef teriyaki bento box that was over cooked and dry. I really think the beef was a McDonald's patty with teriyaki sauce. I wouldn't recommend to anyone unless you have two hours to spare before a movie and enjoy watching other customers get angry with wrong orders and long waits.
    Typical mall sushi experience. Average. Not terrible, but not good either. The service was sweet but slow. One server midday, on Saturday, in a strip mall...with a movie theater on site, just makes no sense to me. Not that it was crowded, but 5 tables and the phone orders seemed to be kicking her ass. The sushi chef was an older gentleman so I guess my internal stereotypes expected more...better sushi. I wouldn't go back. It was just not that great (see pic).
    Last min stop with a date for a very quick bite before a movie. Should have just gone to any other establishment in the plaza. It just...doesn't taste right. Everything is over sauced, fish nor the rice seem very fresh. Maybe thats why they over mayo or over sauce everything? I got a Maverick award on yelp for checking into such a low star establishment, LoL, what are you promoting Yelp!?
    It was horrible. I will definitely NOT be back. The service was slow it took at least 10 minutes to get place set ups and even then we only got 2 and there was 3 of us also we didnt get our appetizer until after our sushi then we asked for a recommendation or a popular roll and the waitress looked at us as if we had poop on our foreheads we had 5 rolls and none were fresh but I will say the soy sauce was great.
    This got to be the worst sushi place I have ever been too. Service was lacking, food was disturbing and let me tell you why. We were greeted nicely to our table. Cool. What was not cool was the waitress standing just a few feet away from us repeatedly tapping her pen on her notepad and eye mugging us. We felt rushed and every time I would turn my head towards her direction, she would come by and ask if we were ready. I think she got annoyed and when we were actually ready to order, she was nowhere to be found! I ordered the philadelphia roll and there were massive chunks of cream cheese popping out of the roll like no other! It was crazy and it tasted like crap. We also ordered the chicken udon and it was horrible. The chicken chunks were chewy, fatty and it was not appealing at all. The only good thing that night was the Sapporo. I had a large bottle to myself and surprisingly the food still wasn't good! To top that off, my stomach was in pain all night. Would I come back here? helllll no!
    This place is very aptly named.... Yo Yo. Highs and lows, ups and downs. My sentiments have swung from a high in years past to a somewhat low on my last visit. I used to think this place was fantastic..frequently stopping in when I was in the SJ area. My sentiments have changed greatly about this place. This last visit this past weekend was just....so- so. I don't know if my sushi connoisseur-ship (for lack of a better term) has become more astute or if the quality has declined, but my Rainbow Roll And my Golden Philly Roll did not blow my mind, a rustle maybe. The sushi is not bad, it's just not that fresh and awe-inspiring. Their dessert selection was very meager. No deep fried ice cream or bananas. We settled for some mini mousse dessert that I think I polished off in two bites. I must admit, they do offer a plethora of sushi rolls, servers are friendly and prices are reasonable. Good place to stop if you're feeling the sushi URGE and don't want to SPLURGE.
    This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, literally! I tried their Crunchy roll and the spicy tuna was old. It had a fishy after taste which automatically tells me it wasn't fresh. The bento box was ok. The chicken teriyaki was decent and the tempura was the same. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place because of the sushi. I won't be coming back.
  • Allister D.
    I am going to go straight up with chit chatting about the food. I ordered The go nuggets which are crispy fried tuna rolls drizzled with spicy sauce. This is probably their best type here. Last night my gf and I ordered the godzilla roll which was way too fishy for us...The rainbow roll was the best because it contained hamachi, salmon, and tuna. The Alaska roll was boring; salmon and fish eggs...sucked. Overall, the sushi tasted pretty cheap meaning the rice wasn't on point, the fish taste was still stuck on the sushi, and it was just plain whatever...This place is great fo the price and for some quick sushi dine in. Service was ok..They're nice but they are very slow on getting back with their customers on a busy night...we had to go directly up to the cashier just to pay our check..we waited about 20 mins just to wait for it -__-
    I will never go back to this place again. There was a hair in my roll, so gross! I'm glad I saw it before I started eating. The hair was very obviously not mine, so when I told the waitress she took it away & brought out a new one. She was not as apologetic as she should have been & she still charged me for the food. The service was definitely lacking, the food was over priced & the chef should wear a hair net!
    The spicy tuna hand roll was good. I had a piece or two of each of the other 3 rolls that were ordered by my parents and sister and they were pretty good but not "ohmygahd it's amazing" good. I also ordered the rainbow roll [my usual order at other sushi restaurants] and the fish wasn't fresh and tasted funky. The waitress gave us two different half rolls from the sushi bar as a replacement and I ate a piece of one of them and it tasted weird. My appetite was pretty much lost after that. I thought having a small bowl of udon would help my stomach, and it was good until I started eating the soup because I found that it was way too salty to slurp. This place is pretty terrible, aside from the water and hot tea refills which one of the waitresses was pretty on top of.
    Lunch hour on a Friday and 80% of the sushi boat is empty with the same five things floating around on the remaining 20% of the boats. The California rolls are soggy and the worst I've had. The only thing that was somewhat worth eating was the gyoza... Definitely won't be returning.
    Not sure why this place has such a low star rating. I thought the food was pretty good. Ive been here twice after a movie. Something about a movie and sushi that just seems to go together.. Last time was with a few of my friends. They both enjoyed their food and even customized a bento box since one was vegan. The reason why Im giving it a lower star rating is that the prices were fairly high. Sushi is pretty pricey as it is but for the quality and atmosphere I think it should be slightly cheaper. Service was ok and food turnaround wasnt bad either. Ive never seen this place packed or even slightly busy though. But since it is in such a great spot, walking distance from AMC, I most likely will be back.
    The food isn't terribly different from another Yo Yo Sushi at Rivermark nearby as the sushi and sushi rolls aren't terribly fresh, authentic, or remarkable. Service is often scatter-brained. If you're with a group and order lots of food, keep track of what you ordered as they'll usually forget one or two items. Fine enough if they don't charge you for what you don't get; definitely not so if they charge you anyway. The only redeeming part about this place is that it's one of the few options in the area with no wait during the weekday lunch hour. Lots of TVs and a full bar make this an especially conducive place for groups.
    I came here for lunch with my old boss. I got the Ton Katsu Don which was very tasty and my old boss got the Vegetable Udon. Service here was horrible. It took forever for them to come and take our order. We had to ask for a second set of chopsticks and a napkin multiple times, since our table only had one set. When they brought out our Udon, they gave it to the wrong table. Our food came out at vastly different times. My old boss's bowl of Udon came out and about 10 minutes later, my Katsu Don came out. The table next to us experienced the same thing when one diner received his meal first and his girlfriend's dish came out no less than 10 minutes after. They forgot my soup and salad so that was brought out after my meal had already arrived, but at least they noticed that I did not get it. They were quick to give us the bill, but again I had to ask three times for a to-go box. This place would be good for take-out, but I cannot recommend dining in due to the terrible service.
    I'm confused why the ratings are so low. My colleagues and I come at least once a week! Love the UFO roll, the golden California roll and many others. Service is fast and friendly. In fact, my co-worker comes twice a week or else goes through withdrawals. Ambiance and upholstery may not be anything to write he about, but it's sufficient, and clean. Highly recommend YoYo Sushi to anyone looking for good sushi at reasonable prices with fast and friendly service.
    Can't say much about the food's flavor and freshness, but their take out service during lunch is great. I called in to order a custom spicy tuna crunch appetizer (I asked to substitute the crunch with veggies). They were patient with my order and got it ready in the 8 minutes it took me to drive from my office to the restaurant. They even opened the box to show me that they had gotten everything right (they threw in broccoli, well-cooked carrots, and even some avocado!) before packing it up with all the utensils. If you're looking for a quick sushi fix with no wait (and don't really notice the difference in fish freshness), this is the place to go!
    (4)
  • Racheal S.
    We came here because the location was convenient. But I wouldn't recommend it nor would I come back again. They didn't have any specials for house rolls, the choices were limited and the rolls weren't fresh. The avocado looked old for sure!
    2nd time here and not impressed at all. Don't think I'll drop by this place any time soon. Food seems to be okay though sushi are not as good as you can find in other places. Service is quick and "snappy" but feels more like an average fast food serving. They'll take your order, bring your food real quick (too quick, I'm wondering if they have pre-cooked rolls somewhere in the back ready to go) and then will drop your receipt. Anyway, something does not feel right about the place and about the food they serve there for the price. 2 stars rating is definitely too low, 3 stars is about right.
    SIMPLY AWFUL!!! I wished I'd checked Yelp before coming here because its not often that I have the opportunity to go out to dinner, and I really regret wasting my one night out like this. It was really that bad, and I have a pretty high tolerance for liking decent food. I'm not a foodie. If its decent, I'll like it. But this was by far the worst sushi i've ever had, and it put me off sushi for a while. A week later I am still having bad memories about this place. :{ I used to come here a lot several years ago for lunch, and it used to be good. I happened to be in the area, and was happy to have a chance to come back, and bring my daughter. I told her about how good this place was. But some thing has obviously changed, as the food is now awful. I'll never come back. The tuna was not fresh. The rice tasted off. The crab in the california roll was mysteriously like canned crab. There was only a tiny sliver of avocado in the california roll. My daughter and I can usually eat four or more california rolls, and we each ate one piece and left the rest. I've NEVER left sushi on the plate in my life. This was really unpleasant. UGH. One thing I noticed the employees seemed to be speaking something other than Japanese to a non-Japanese sushi chef. My guess is there are new owners since I was here last, and they are not familiar with the finer points of Japanese restaurant such as freshness above all else. My suggestions: 1) Perhaps hiring a japanese consultant would be useful to help turn this business around. You need to learn from scratch what makes good sushi, OR 2) turn it into a fast food teriyaki and noodle restaurant or other specialization (Korean?), and *stop* making sushi. Your business will not survive if you keep doing what you're doing. Changing to a noodle house would be a lot easier to do well, and you can probably build it into a very robust business given your location. Stop the sushi. It is an insult. (On a positive note, the service was excellent. The servers were very attentive, very nice, and very on the ball with water and tea. And the teriyaki chicken plate that my daughter had was decent and a huge portion. The fresh veggies served with it looked good).
    When I go to sushi bars most times I expect manageable rolls but end up with humongous uneadable rolls that make me feel like I should cut them in half but this place is awesome it's very very tasty manageable bite sized pieces my boyfriend and I devoured three rolls in what seemed like seconds I thoroughly enjoyed it.
    (5)
  • Carrie S.
    This is definitely a Meh. Like a really weak Meh. On my death bed Meh. I felt like the servers were trying to get me to order as fast as possible, eat as fast as possible, and get out of there as fast as possible. It was close to the office, and I was in the mood for sushi. I ordered the rainbow roll, which I actually really liked. The sushi bar has really poor selections, and most of the boats were empty. I ordered a basic california roll, and I couldn't finish it. It was bad! Too much money for what you get.
  • Saurabh S.
    I mostly eat here when we come out for the movies. This place is nice and get what's better than "fresh" and tasty when it comes to sushi.
    (4)
  • Ken N.
    Good, fresh sushi looks almost translucent and carries with it what I don't know how to describe other than a "clean" taste that's occasionally sweet but almost never tastes like fish. If you want to get all poetic about it, you could say it tastes like the crisp, ocean air. So, if you're down for some damn good sushi, then I recommend that you turn your ass around and go find a good sushi place 'cuz this is definitely not it. Your movie starts in an hour and it's right next door, you say? Lick the pavement, instead. You just got out of a movie at Mercado and figure you might as well eat around here since you don't want to get into your car, just yet? Head into Starbucks and chew on a few napkins. As I sit here and write this after having returned from a quick post-movie (Lincoln--fantastically acted film, btw) dinner at this place, I am trembling with fear that at any moment, a low, insistent gurgling will arise from the lower regions of my body and force me into the bathroom for a gastronomic symphony of epic proportions. I ordered a roll and a hamachi nigiri and maguro nigiri. The maguro was meh--looked pretty frozen and went down OK. But as my teeth sunk into a piece of the hamachi, did I smell and taste the ocean? Yes, if the ocean consisted of the gag-inducing stench of rancid seafood that had been sitting out too long, a smell that wafted into my nostrils. My eyes watered as I forced the bite down (Momma told me not to waste food) and in that moment, I wondered why oh why dear God didn't I order a large sake?! So between the questionable food and the surly-looking stone faced server who looked a little too put upon to you know... do her job and attend to customer service ("Is she mad at us?" I asked. "Nah, she's just Chinese," my Chinese friend answered), the only thing this place has going for it is that it's right next to Mercado, compelling unsuspecting movie patrons into its poisonous death maw because of its convenient location. Excuse me while I go wash out my mouth with Windex.
    This food was so bad that it made me sign up on Yelp so I can warn everyone.. DO NOT GO! I have had better sushi at grocery stores. Also had to return the steak kabob or should I say rubber.... The bathroom were discussing in both men and women's . I sure wish I would have looked at yelp beforehand because I would have noticed a two star. I know I would never sleep at a two star hotel and I would never eat at a two star restaurant. As I was leaving I was jealous of the people going into in and out burger
    I used to come here routinely, and really liked the atmosphere and food quality. I was entertaining an out of town guest and we went here for sushi. Wow. what a difference. To sum it up, do you want to eat at a Sushi place where the tables are sticky? I don't.
    This place would've gotten a solid two star rating if it weren't for our main server. She told me what sushi was raw she found out that I don't eat raw sushi. Also, my friend ordered more than she could eat and couldn't take it to go since we were going to see a movie later. The lady there was really nice and offered to keep it in the fridge for her and told her that she could pick it up before they close. How nice! As for the sushi, it wasn't that great. I thought that the rice in my rolls was a little to mushy and the rolls just weren't that good. My friend liked the rolls that she got but she did say that she's had better sushi elsewhere. The miso soup that we both got was good. I also got the Agedashi tofu for the appetizer and that wasn't that good as well. The service is a bit slow and the prices are a little high for what you get. On a more positive note, they do have pictures of most of the rolls and other food which makes deciding on what to get easier. They also have premade sushi that is ready to eat at the sushi bar. I wish more places would offer to save food for their customers so that they don't end up having to waste food.
    Just went here for some take-out. Ordered the Daisy Roll and Baked Mussel for a total of $20. Wait time: 20 min Pros: friendly staff Cons: - food came out slow even though it was towards the end of lunch rush - both dishes were lukewarm when I tried them 2 minutes after getting the order - you can tell the dishes had been sitting there because of how much sauce was absorbed into the garnish - mussels still have sand in them Summary: food is not worth the price. the only thing worse would be if I get food poisoning. should have read the yelp reviews.
    I wish there are other sushi places outside the AMC Mercado theatre, but this was the next door one so my group and I tried it one time. Service sucks! The girl who served us didn't know how to calculate our bill. I helped her and her boss to calculate our bill. We were a big group and they got confused. Geez! They should've given me salary for an hour of calculating the bill for them! I'm giving two stars because the bento box dinner I got was not that bad. However, I'm not going back to this place. I won't recommend it either. Goodluck!
    Can a negative star be posted? Old tuna and was attempted to be corrected. Mind you I know my fish and if I didn't the ppl inward with had fresher meat than mine. Some of the service people were short mannered. Dirty place.
    The place is clean and the service is efficient. It's my go-to sushi place because it's consistent. I don't sit at the sushi bar because the boats don't come out with new and exciting stuff, unless you order it. The portions are average. They have a wide variety of sushi choices and the tea is always filled.
    The soba was really good, the gyoza was under-cooked/grilled/steamed , had to send it back to the kitchen. The service was friendly. The vegetarian Maki was unique with a peanut butter paste. Over all it was an ok experience. not sure if I will return.
    Very poor experience. Stinky old sushi and dirty plates. I saw the server put a glass of wine back into the bottle that was returned by the customer.     I've been here twice... have not been impressed.... I hope their sushi is better than their entree's. I had a bento box.. and it is not memorable at all. One plus to this place.. is that they have the potato/yam tempura... which I happen to love for some reason.... but other than that... I really don't think I would come here again.... We should have taken it as a sign... when this was the only place in this center that had immediate seating available during the lunch rush....
    Went to a movie on a Friday night and walked in after around 8. Place was empty so immediately checked yelp and seen the low reviews. My BF was ready to bail but we had already sat down. We didn't attempt the sushi but service was great (as it should be being the only guests). We ordered chicken teriyaki and it was good. Salad was fresh. Soup was good as well. Healthy portions. Definitely a little pricey. TVs were on sports so that was an added bonus.
    Stopped into the restaurant after the movies on June 30, 2013. There was only one woman working the bar and waiting on tables. I immediately noticed that it was almost as hot inside the restaurant as it was outside (it was around 88 degrees), so I asked her whether the air conditioning was working (mind you, it is not a good sign when they are serving sushi in a very warm restaurant!). She gave me a dirty look and told me that it was. We sat down momentarily, and feeling annoyed at her body language and nasty response, we walked out. I refuse to eat at a restaurant which charges top dollar for their food while being so cheap that they can't run the air conditioner for their guests. Forget it! I had dined at this restaurant in the past, and the food is expensive and just so-so. There are so many better choices for Japanese food and/or sushi in the area that my best advice is not to even think about stopping here. Use your smartphone to find another Japanese restaurant.
    I come here to grab lunch to-go since it is the closest Japanese restaurant to my workplace. The to-go wait here isn't too bad, usually 10-20 min wait. I order the lunch bento box every time, which I can only say is A-OK... it is not great. The portions are pretty small and the food is mediocre. I only go here for the convenience and would not recommend this place unless convenience is a factor.
    I really can't tell if the quality of the sushi is horrible or the price they charge is for real sushi. Went to Yo Yo Sushi today when the family visited me for my lunch hour. Since we were tired of the same old same old we decided to give Yo Yo Sushi a try. Unfortunately I didn't consult the Yelp gods beforehand otherwise it would have saved me $48.00 Maybe I should take the 'My cup is half full approach" and say that I have now experienced crappy sushi sand mark it off my bucket list. I ordered the Sex on the Mountain roll. For one, it had "sex" in the name. two the picture for the menu must have been taken at one of those angles that they always shoot Tom Cruise with because it made the sushi roll look way larger than it was in real life on the menu. Lastly, it said spicy scallops in the description. Both of which are appealing to this dude. The roll was bland. The "scallops" on top tasted unflavored tapioca pudding, more mush than anything. All of that wonderful micro tower or rice, seaweed and non-descript sea-byproduct for the whopping sum of $12.95. I literally could have had a kids cheeseburger at McDonalds and it would have been more food than the Sex on the Mountain" roll. My sons salmon rolls, which I tasted and the salmon literally had ZERO flavor. My son NEVER leaves sushi left on his plate. At Yo Yo Sushi, he left half. Coincidence? I think not! My daughter, also much like my son, a black hole for which sushi disappears never to be seen again, quit eating after half of her "Crunchy Roll" was gone. I asked her why she didn't finish her roll and she said it tasted "greasy" on the ends. My last observation, trivial yes, none-the-less important to me... There was no sugar or sweetener on ANY of the tables. Why on earth someone would drink iced tea without something to sweeten it up is beyond me. Perhaps jn Santa Clara there is a shortage of Equal/Sweet-N-Low and sugar, who knows. In conclusion I have finally found an establishment that can "F-up" sushi. Can I put that on my resume????
    I am an avid sushi diner. I have eaten sushi all over many states and major cities. I have never had a worse Pork Tan Katsu in my life. It tasted and looked like McDonalds made it. On top of that, their salad dressing, while it is creamy is really heavy on vinegar rather than the more delicous miso/sesame based dressing. I was completely dissapointed with my lunch meal and will never return.
    Never going here again. My aunt ordered the calamari salad, and they left the lettuce hella wet at the bottom of the bowl. The calamari part was aiiiight. Nothing special about it. The dipping sauces were okay though. I ordered the crunchy roll, and it was served in 8 measly little pieces. Not fresh at all, and the rice was hard. NOTE: Don't eat here before watching a movie at AMC... Ended up having to poo in the middle of the movie, hahah. Possible food poisoning? NAGL... -____-
    Food is great but service sucked. Kim spent more time talking to her friends eating at the bar than taking orders and getting our food. I had to ask her for my beer 3 times before I got. After eating our appetizers, we say around for 15 minutes and she never came over. We eventually got her attention and asked to place our food order.
    I went here on a Saturday night because its conveniently located right next to the Amc Mercado 20 movie theaters. I went to this restaurant thinking I could have a nice non fast food dinner before the movie started and boy was I WRONG WRONG WRONG! This is THE WORST SUSHI BAR I've ever been to. We ordered 4 different rolls and they were ALL left on the table. Nothing here is fresh and the service here is horrible. I recommend you eat anywhere else besides here. Fast food beats this place any day hands down!
    Service - Great! Food - Not fresh, nothing special. Had the sashimi, spicy tuna, and and california roll. The sashimi quality was completely under par. Fish was slightly warmer than room-temp and it was missing a crisp but 'melt-in-your-mouth' taste. Spicy tuna - same stuff I've had elsewhere. This was ok. Califrnia roll - same as above. Nothing special. However, I did like that it didn't have too much of that mayo taste. So the imitation crab meat had good flavor. Drink - Lychee Martini - alright. The Lychee had not been pre-soaked in sake or vodka (whatever alcohol they used) and there was too much of the lychee syrup in the drink. Would I come here again? Only if I had too. Sometimes, your friends just drag you to places because there's not much else nearby.
    Never again! I was craving sushi baaaad and I've never came across bad soosh up until I came to this place. We came during lunch rush. They were so busy. They only had 3 servers. I'm like ok... I REALLY want sushi so let's do this... So I got the albacore roll. Normally when sushi comes with mayonnaise and baked under a salamander, it usually comes out delicious (then again real sushi is served raw... so.. well hey..) This one was not so good. I ate it because I was late for work and I need to eat something pronto. My bf ordered Pork Katsu. This wasn't even good at all. It was so dry, nevertheless he ate it cause we're hungry. NEVER AGAIN!
    Honestly, don't open a chain and call it Japanese food when it's not. Agedashi Tofu on a Salad Leaf - I don't think so. I think everyone who's working there is really doing their best and a good job - but the concept is just not working. I was surprised by the GIANT hotate sushi and was really excited to eat it.... until I did. No offense - the food didn't taste bad at all. I finished everything - and it was tasty because I was hungry (and they server a generous glass of wine), but calling it Japanese food...is just wrong. + For Service and Sushi Chefs working with what the have. :)
    I had lunch yesterday at Yo Yo Sushi (the location in the Mercado Center on Mission College Boulevard in Santa Clara). It was only OK, serviceable for a quick lunch, but certainly nothing to write home about, especially for the price that they charge. I ordered the seafood sunomono salad, a radish roll, and a New York roll. Service for me was OK - the salad came out in about 5 minutes, but the sushi came out about 15 minutes later. The seafood sunomono salad was nice, thinly sliced cucumber with wakame (seaweed), thin shreds of surimi, and some nice chunks of octopus. The octopus and surimi tasted fresh. Although the cook was just a little bit too heavy-handed with the rice wine vinegar for my taste, I thought it was the best part of the meal. The radish and New York rolls were merely serviceable - I did not notice anything funky with them, but at the same time, they weren't remarkable, either. They certainly weren't worth what Yo Yo charges for them. The bankette where they seated me was a bit dirty, which was a bit of a turn-off, and the restaurant as a whole has this worn-out, dated feel to it. Yo Yo has gone downhill over the last year or so, so I don't come here much any more, unless all of the other options in the area are completely booked (which they were yesterday). It's a shame, really - even a year ago, they were much better than this.
    The wasabi is bland with 0 kick! All the bites on the boats had misago (fish eggs) on EVERYTHING! And the prices are...well be sure to budget, you're going to need to!!!
    Ordered salmon + hamachi sashimi and a philly roll. Cheese was old/moldy and sashimi was meh. My friend ordered a bento box, the tofu in her miso soup was extremely sour (old) and her agedashi tofu was slimy. Just don't go here, I got food poisoning and paid for it. DO NOT GO HERE!
    Yo yo down and out the door. This place has nice enough service but the quality of the food is terrible. Especially avoid the Chicken Donburi, mine was extremely wet from drenched rice and practically flavorless... It made me kick myself for not going to Gombei's for a Donburi done proper.
    I'm going to have to agree with the majority of reviews here. Didn't have a great experience and probably won't return. We can on a Tuesday evening around 8pm after seeing a flick. The restaurant had some people in it but not more than 8 or 10 and half of those were sitting at the boat moat. :) There were a couple of servers working so overall not terrible proportion guests to servers. The sushi on the boats looked dry and it was. So we tried ordering from the menu. they took our order pretty quickly but when it came time to deliver what the sushi chef made we actually had to call our server's attention over to where the sushi was sitting in the delivery area. She was busy chatting it up with the other server. :( We ordered the rainbow roll which looked good but was really not that great. For me the fish was a tad fishy! It was edible but yeah, we did notice a lacking quality. So, unless we're dying and are too lazy to drive anywhere else after a movie, I don't think we'll be going here again. Unfortunate.
    This place is exactly two stars. I have had better. Period. I had the bento box with salmon teriyaki and California rolls. The California rolls were barely sushi. Nothing about it stood out. It was just ehhhh. Boring. Same with the miso soup in the beginning. I love miso soup, but this one did nothing for me. The service didn't make me jump for joy either. Nothing really did to be honest. I probably won't be back. That's ok though, there's always Satomi Sushi in Fremont.
    a little pricey and are a little inconsistent with the quality of fish. BE CAREFUL when they say its spicy because they make it REALLY SPICY. their donburis are huge and okay. if i didn't live so close i wouldn't come here very often
    Sushi here is so expensive. The service here sucks. :( Portions are so tiny and the sushi isn't all that great. My friends and I got a tummy ache from the muscles we have ordered. ehh.
    Not the best sushi. Their miso soup is super salty. Pricing is a bit high for food that's not so "quality". I go here with my co-workers because it's close to work and well, when you're lunching with co-workers, their choice becomes your choice to avoid wasted time! My favorite dish here is, well the seaweed salad.. no, really!! They do have a great lychee Martini that I love. If you have time, want good sushi go elsewhere.
    FAIL! This place is probably the worst sushi I have ever had. The sushi bar sucked! There was like a variety of 4 things, and the same things kept coming around. I get excited when I sit at sushi bars with moving boats, but this place, should not even have a sushi bar. There needs to be more variety on your boats, they didn't have any hamachi, salmon, or tuna on the boats! The beef teriyaki my friend and I shared was mainly slices of fat; hardly any meat! The only thing that was yummy was the salad and dressing. Cucumbers were a big plus. But that is it. Not that great of service either. I will probably never come here again.
    Came here about 2 weeks ago, around the evening close to closing time. Place was pretty empty, and no host came to take my friends and I to our table. We sat at a table and eventually a waitress came and gave us our menus. The service was fast, but the food was meh. It wasn't horrible, but I could eat it to just satisfy my hunger. There wasn't much of a quality for the taste and looks. Service: 4/5, Food: 2/5.
  • Chanté B.
    I'm shocked by all the negative reviews. I am so happy to have this place so close to work. The service does get slow at lunch but that's why i go a bit earlier. The sushi is great, it doesn't have that 'fishy' taste and i've never had a bad roll. But i'm okay with all the negative reviews, more sushi for me.
    Im not a fan of sushi myself but ive been here several times with my boyfriend and ordered something else. Ive ordered their teriyaki and it was dry and burned. My second visit I ordered salmon and it was over cooked. I thought id give this place one more time and ordered the beef soup and it was okay. The service was average.
    (1)
  • Anthony C.
    Pretty darn good. Was a bit scared coming because of the 2 star ratings but was surprised that the service and food was great! The aloha roll was ono! Apparently the 2 star ratings were mostly because of the service. We had quick and friendly service. Might be because we were one of the 2 families there.
    Ehhh... not for me! I guess at some point the ex thought we needed closure, so he wanted to meet for a drink possibly food at his favorite sushi joint but I heard such bad things about this place, I was a no-go BUT I didn't realize they have a full bar... so when I heard about that, I was in (don't tempt me with alcohol). The servers were all dressed in tuxedo type clothes - they were pretty cute. We sat at their "bar area" and ordered a few beers and sake. You can't really critique Hef but it was great - the highlight of my evening (believe me) but at some point between sake, beer and trying his martini, I needed to be fed. He ordered the Crispy Yo nuggets and Spicy Tuna roll - not necessarily something I would pick out, but hey, I was hungry. The only good thing I ate here was their side salad which came with a delicious creamy dressing - Everything else was not for me - the nuggets were over fried and tasted like charcoal and the spicy tuna roll was... not spicy... um... okay... I will say that the servers were nice, helpful and efficient but this is not my kinda sushi joint - plus I think it's plagued with bad memories so I can't go back anyway.
    Service is terrible, the waitresses have attitude, and never crack a smile, and if you bother to ask for anything specified, they get mad as if you're not supposed to get YOUR food... that YOUR paying... YOUR money for... the way YOU want it. Like this waitress got mad when me and a friend came in for dinner, we asked for hot sauce for both of us, she brought a small ramekin with a quarter size amount of sauce, for us to share. When we asked her for another one she shook her head and let out a huge annoyed breath. And just walked away when we asked for forks to eat with instead of chopsticks. As if that wasn't bad enough, I guess it's because of it's location, being next to AMC, they're WAY over priced, you pay almost $20 for a dinner Bento box that isn't even all that great! Which brings me to my next complaint. The food. Sushi is not fresh, tempura is greasy and over cooked. Teriyaki beef is flavorless and really fatty. They used to have yoyos for every kid that came in, then the all of the sudden just stopped. BOOO! If you want good food, at a good price with good service DON'T COME HERE! They're extremely fortunate that they have a great location, next to lots of cooperate offices and right next to a movie theater otherwise I'm not sure this place would still be in business. YOYO YOU SUCK!
    I do not like to be negative, but still need to be honest. The people were nice and the service was good. The food...Not as much. The texture and smell seemed fishy, slimy, and maybe past it's prime. As I left, I felt a bit uncomfortable and was not well the rest of the night. This to me goes with thee old adage "trust your gut". When you have a feeling this might be to good to be true. It is!
    I have to agree with all the other reviews. I wanted to go eat wraps, but the place was closed so I ended up going to Yo Yo Sushi instead. I decided to try out the bar and was really disappointed by their selection. The rolls were not that impressive nor did they taste fresh. The chefs were not refilling the boats so the choices were incredibly limited. They pack too much rice into their rolls and it's sour. The chefs are really confused when you ask them questions and they are the most unfriendly sushi chefs I've ever met. Th tempura came out all right except I got a piece of brown broccoli! It was either old or burnt and it made me lose my appetite. The waitresses were all right, but mostly inattentive. For the price, the quality of food and service are ridiculously poor.
  • Michelle Denise P.
    Price are not worth the sub-par sushi and service that you get here. Had dinner here on a Sunday night. The was slow, and yet we had to wait about 20+ minutes for our sushi order to come out. On top of the wait, service was mediocre, and the sushi was not great at all. Definitely not coming back.
  • Ted D.
    I know I should cone here for the sushi but its the dinner box what draws me here and of course the Sake'! The chicken tastes fresh, tempura too.Wish they would stop serving the salad and substitute it with couple of cali rolls. The service is spotty, sometimes a simple request of a refill of water can take a few minute. Overall, the food (lunch/dinner box) is great. Do not know much about the sushi. Its too many choses to choose from!
    After seeing in a review of someone who liked Yo Yo sushi, I had many thoughts running through my head, which I will keep to myself. I've been twice to this location, the first time because I've never been and it wasn't good. The second time because my co-workers wanted to come to this place even when I knew it wasn't good. This place is pretty horrible when it comes to calling itself a sushi bar and it's overpriced too! The rice is stale and the fish is so horribly not fresh! So gross. I will never set foot in here again.
    (1)
  • Kim R.
    3 of us went for lunch and the comment was this place shouldn't be called Yo Yo, but No No. We agree with the reviews.....sushi was bland and didn't seem fresh. We ate very little and to top it off, they don't provide refills on sodas. This place has been crossed off our list of places to eat.
  • Lan D.
    The only thing I like about this place is the river of pre-made sushi plates that float by on little boats at the sushi bar. It's really convenient for a quick lunch. But the quality of the sushi is pretty sad. It falls apart too easily (some of the sushi is over-sized, but they only give you a few pieces) and the flavor is horrible. I don't know what else to say about that. The service is pretty bad too, as they barely talk to you.
    I don't post often, but had to post this! Yes I know that I broke rule #1, and as soon as I walked in and saw the sushi boats rolling around the bar I should have turned around and walked out but I did not. I sat in what was called the bar area and while it did not smell bad. it smelled off. It was not till i had already gotten my food i realized it was bleach (again not a a good thing). Got my Sashimi platter that was made up of 4 different types fish that did just was not good. All of the fish had been frozen pre-cut and just plopped on plate with none of the care that you really expect of a sushi chef. None of the fish had any flavor other than cold and when i took a bite of the hamachi and it was mush I gave up and asked the waitress if all the fish was frozen and like this. She replied, no it is all fresh sushi just made. Did not learn my lesson, and picked up my salmon skin roll to see if they at least had done that right only to have the roll pouring out with eel sauce that covered my shirt and had rubberized pieces of fish like substance inside. I gave up, paid the bill (sending items back was not going to happen in that the staff did not seem comprehend why i wanted quality in my food) and walked out to McDonald's for a real piece of Fish... Filet-o-Fish. Stay Away!
    Alright- with this heat waive there is nothing better than some sushi! Last Saturday I called up my sushi lover friend and asked her to come along and take me to a good sushi place. We ended up at Yo Yo Sushi out at Rivermark Plaza. The place is located in a very nice shopping center, there are several other small coffee places, a Safeway, Baja Fresh and several other fun places. Back to Yo-Yo Sushi - the inside of the restaurant is nice, of course there is a sushi bar and several booths and tables. Since the evening was warm we opted to dine outside, we were seated and handed the menus. I would say there is plenty of selection in the menu... Being that I still have not graduated from California Rolls, I ordered a Bento Box which had CA rolls. I like how they give you several options and you can mix and match all kinds of dishes. It is bit expensive compared to other places in Japan Town, like Kent C. said it is in a very nice area and surrounded by several high tech companies. My food in particular was pretty good... the rice was just on point, chicken was tasty! and the CA rolls were fresh... Service was great! Although we were the only people sitting outside, they constantly checked on us. And here is the big plus.. the closed the place and my friends and I were chatting it up and they did not ask us to leave. Parking is the challenge here, which is why I am giving them 3 stars! This is a very busy plaza and sometimes it does get crazy.
    Service here is terrible: slow and inattentive. They won't even bring you dishes for soy sauce, you have to get them yourselves. The sushi here takes forever to be delivered out and isn't even made well. The fish is at or below Japanese supermarket quality. It takes $25+ to get anywhere near full. The bento boxes are expensive, as are even the simplest rolls (like a Sake roll). Why is it that I always end up at AMC 20? I think getting an Icee and nachos might actually be a better use of money than here.
    Ok, so I ate here a few years ago and the food was really yummy, the sushi was fresh and the sake drinks very delicious. So on Mother's Day this year, hubby asked me to pick a place for lunch and since we were in the area and I do love me some sushi, I picked Yo Yo. What a big mistake that was. The service was friendly, not complaining about that, other than that she charged us for a drink that we sent back because we didn't order it. However, the food is just gross. For starters, the spicy tuna roll had a very strange smell to it, I swear the fish smelled bad but hubby assured me it was fine, my stomach did not think so later on in the day. The sashimi also did not smell or taste fresh, plus the way it was cut all the connective tissue was in there and every single bite of sashimi piece was chewy and we couldn't bite through it, had to stuff the whole piece in my mouth. Which was not a very pretty scene! Then hubby ordered some sort of spinach appetizer dish which was basically a mound of steamed spinach with some weird sweet and sour sauce around it. We had some other foods also but to tell you the truth I just don't even feel like explaining what it was like because I'm getting an upset stomach thinking back to it. The drinks were way too sweet, watered down and very weak. Not one of my best choices for Mother's Day lunch but at least now I know never to go back there again.
    I am not feeling this place, but my friend who brought me here swears its better than the experience I had. I got the sunshine roll and the salmon tasted old and chewy. I think we got a dragon roll too, but I wasn't impressed either. Service SUCKED. It was not busy at all. Our waitress never came to check up on us, and we waited forever just to get our bill. After we got our order, she seriously vanished for an hour. Rivermark has let me down... BUT, I do know that a popular hockey player likes this place, so I don't mind coming back and bumping into him, ha!
    I was in a major meltdown mode so my SO had to find me something to eat straight away. Julie Cranky-Pants had taken over my being. He chose this place. Shame on him when a few yards away is an In and Out! I wasn't sure if any of this stuff was edible so I drank heavily with a few sake cocktails to kill off any germs.
    I was very skeptical at first. I was thinking a strip mall sushi place? Must be bad. Tried it and loved it! I ordered my usual Saba Sashimi and it came fresh and nice. The Saba Shioyaki was also excellent. Now their menu is something to talk about. Very colorful. very entertaining and super attractive. I will be back for more!
    So, we went out to the Mercado for my lunch break during the bar. It was close enough for a quick lunch, but far enough to avoid having to hear people talk about what issues they missed on the civ pro essay. I thought sushi would be the perfect thing to hit the spot and propel me into the second half of the day's exam. I was wrong. I didn't think sushi could go this wrong, but apparently it can. The sushi did not taste fresh. I couldn't tell what plates were what. My mom and I couldn't even figure out that what she was eating was a spider roll until she was halfway through it. The spider roll was soggy too. Ew. The boats also sped by impossibly fast, which made it harder to grab the sushi and/or figure out what was on the boats. There also wasn't much of a selection. It took me one plate to give up on the sushi boat and order a bento box. The gyoza tasted like the frozen stuff I'd get from Albertsons during college. The only saving grace was the tonkatsu that I got to make up for the disappointing sushi. The tonkatsu was pretty legit.
    I went to the Rivermark location and I ate at the Sushi bar for a quick lunch. I had the Golden Philly Roll, which I loved. I had the opportunity of trying the salmon skin seaweed salad, whch sent me into orgasmic land. It was crunchy, smoky, salty, tangy and the toasted sesame seeds and the shreds of seaweed was a-may-zing! It came in this little mini bowl, but I could have had in in a big ass salad bowl or on top of an old shoe and that salad would still taste bomb.
    Dear Tetsu (or any member of the SBC who wants to go to lunch on short notice) Next time you want to go to lunch on short notice, don't do it on a very empty stomach, don't meet me at a place where there are limited food choices, and don't forget to Yelp the place before we visit it. Yo Yo Sushi Bar and Grille was not good for lunch. We did walk out full, but after spending $80, you had better be full. Yes, that $80 would have bought us 40 Togo sandwiches on Wednesdays, 80 double cheeseburgers at McD, or even four good lunches at a good restaurant. We sat at the floating bar, but avoided anything on the boats. These boats were loaded down with assorted rolls, but to get the nigiri we had to order direct from the chef. Quantity was good; quality was acceptable; but not $80 acceptable. Tetsu, I know you weren't trying to impress me, so next time 'let's go somewhere cheaper. I'll understand.
    I have eaten here over the past 7+ years, due to the location I am sometimes willing to splurge on the premium cost of sushi at this place. It has definitely gone downhill in quality, they are probably still alive mainly due to the location and limited Japanese offerings nearby. Either the change in management or use of cheap/expired ingredients in the food - was pretty apparent in the appearance of the sushi I had tonight...but I figured what the heck I didn't eat anything all day and was starving. Moments later I had diarrhea/upset stomach after eating some of the fish & vege based sushi. I probably would take my chances eating at Subway nearby over risking a similar incident coming back here!
    It seemed promising when I first walked in. The beef tataki creeped me out a little, I'm not sure how fresh the meat was and on top of that, they overdid it with the lemon and lemon juice. I'm sure it would tasted fine, but there was no "lightly seared" flavor nor texture. The only thing that was pleasant was that it looked like a beef rose in the middle - I thought that was cool. The rolls weren't good - I had the rainbow roll - the fish on it looked dry and unappetizing, it had a slight greyish tint to it. The godzilla roll might've been promising but after the deep frying, the salmon inside (I think) was overcooked. The spicy scallop nigiri was just downright slimey with no flavor. I also had a small order of the salmon sashimi - the fish was better than what was on the roll...but you could still tell it was not fresh. After vainly spending $70, my bf and I walked out with the decision to blacklist this restaurant :( So sad, we've only done that one other time (See: why gochi was not loved by Ellis) Sorry Yo Yo sushi, you are nono sushi to me.
    1 Star: Eh! Sushi was no good. Not fresh. 2 Star: Hubby enjoyed the rack of lamb. Kid enjoyed the tiramisu. I think the intent is really for sushi so, I was really disappointed. My gum still hurts from the over fried rolls.
    I went here because I was craving sushi and this was the only place close to me at the time. At new places, I just like to try a roll or two. I tried the yo yo spinner during dinner which is basically a california roll and spicy tuna and masago on the top, how could you go wrong?? Im such a sushi fanatic I go to great lengths to find the best sushi places in my area. Being a sushi fanatic , im pay close attention to what makes sushi, sushi and that is the RAW FISH. Sadly to say, the fish was incredibly below par! It was disgusting! It did not seem fresh at all! the whole roll just seemed off. They also put very little masago and i love those little orange eggs! I won't be coming back. Spend your money elsewhere!
    Ug. Just no reason to go here at all. I sat at the bar, which was a mistake since I had to sit by the water and wonder about all the weird creatures living in there. (There's no reason for conveyor sushi in the first place, but there is REALLY no reason to use water...gross). I got the chirashi sushi, which was also a mistake. Chirashi sushi is just fish and rice, so at a place like Yo Yo Sushi where the fish is not good and the rice is not good, there's nothing to fall back on. I should have gotten an avocado roll deep-fried and covered in mayonnaise sauce. Or just not come at all. I couldn't even finish my meal, and let me just say, I am a girl who finishes meals. This place would get 2 stars if it was cheap, but it is emphatically not. The service is decent but that doesn't make up for it.
    Ah... remember? 1996? ...when Mercado AMC was new? When it was THE theatre to see a flick and to be seen at? It was guaran-d@rn-teed that the crowds were thick with the young and stoopid, myself included? ...yeahhhh... Oooh, ooh... and remember SUSHI LOVERS?! Right? De Anza had Miyake's but we had Sushi Lover's right in our backyard; cutting class for lunch and to see who's working. All the cute girls wearing kimonos? How often were we there? Almost every week that one summer, huh? That spot was always busy... Ah... remember, that one server? What was her name... ? She looked all innocent in her kimono, but at the club she came with all the fierce-looking tats and piercings? She used to hook it up all the time, cutting the bill in half. Ah, yeah, she was cool... The sushi was good back then, too, at least that's how we remember'd it... maybe we didn't know any better. There was just so much stuff to try, part of the fun used to be SEEING it and realizing you wanted it, but if we wanted it and didn't see it, they'd make it for us... ... yeah, that was the shiz. __________________________ ... now? Full bar. Okay. Cute hostess. YAY. Attentive service. Okay. But there's no sushi... Nothing is on display aside from pictured in the menu? The more inventive rolls only come in big/expensive portions? Empty sushi boats (even though I know I'm not supposed to like sushi boats)? ... no. This spot; not the shiz.
    I came In last Sunday around 5. It seems like a very modern and hip sushi spot but the telemundo on the tv and 94.9 on the radio should have warned me this was not a traditional sushi place; which is fine except for the fact that they charge you like it is. When the server brought out the sushi she didn't even bother to tell us what they were. She just threw them on the table. For some reason the rolls had carrots in them, that was a first for me. The sushi was just ok, I have definitely had better. It was not the freshest and for the price I was shocked. $50 for 4 rolls. They weren't even special rolls. I don't think I would go back, nothing special.
    Yo, yo, yo! I don't get it how other Yelpers have had so bad experience with Yo Yo Sushi... I have been coming here for 5 years and so far, this place will have to be one of my favorite sushi places. In fact, I come here a LOT, the staff knows exactly what I will order. Ika Sugatayaki, Beef Tataki, seaweed salad, sake maki, fisherman roll, sashimi yoyo and tobiko. Even their bento boxes are pretty good (but I rarely have that). Service is excellent and the staff greets you with a smile. There was this one time (at Band Camp), they were a little slow and the waitress apologized and said they were short staffed...still managed a smile. Food is delicious and yummy! Their bathroom is always clean (so far). Not only that, it's in the heart of Mercado, a few steps away from Starbucks and Jamba Juice! Very close to Highway 101, parking is not a problem (unless Twilight is showing nearby, or Harry Potter). I highly recommend Beef Tataki and Ika Sugatayaki. It's seared beef and grilled squid, respectively. The place is cozy and I always, ALWAYS have fun here with my family. I wish they had more selection, that's all. Alrighty then, go!
    Decided to go to Mercado to watch Ted and as we were waiting for our show time, we had time to kill so why not grab a bite. Was in the mood for sushi and this place was right there so we thought it would be a great idea.. WRONG. We walked in and it was DEAD. We were seated and we ordered 3 rolls, 2 nigiri. The nigiri was cut in the oddest way, it looked like it was roughly chopped up and it was not the freshest either. Buffet style sushi seemed to taste and look more appetizing than what was brought to us. The rolls were nothing special and lacking flavor.. it was a bit bland which was odd since they did have sauce on them. It was overpriced and disappointing meal, we didn't think it was a good idea to finish bad food so we save our appetite for the theater's food instead.
    There is no flavor and the quality of the sushi is very poor. - Gyoza - Tastes like they bought it at the grocery store - Chicken Teriyaki sushi - No flavor and the chicken tasted burnt and it was super dry. - Crunchy roll - No flavor and something was weird tasting about the tuna - Fried Edi roll - The WORST. It had a yucky crab suprise "mixture". I can deal with ok sushi places, but this place was way below average. Don't let the nice Rivermark decor fool you.
    shy past six pm...quick dinner before six:forty-five avatar...mexican, italian, subway or yo yo sushi?...lottery pick and feeling japanese safe...all-in yo yo sushi...clean and spacious...but, fairly empty...a rotating sushi bar...nearly nothing...pathetic littering of sad looking rolls placed between mostly blank white empty spaces...morbid carousel of aging and dying sushi rolls...questioning if any new fresh rolls will be added...staff quick to answer and give a definite no...no other options and taking a table seating...tea and menu.... bento boxes near $eighteen...assume $twenty plus after tip...skip on teriyaki saucing and deep fried...and, rolls decided....basic maki roll dinner...tuna, cucumber and imitation crab roll....tight little bite-sized rolls...three sets of failures...poor rice...hard packed...and, how long has the rice been sitting?....spicy tuna roll the worst...worst dry rice and even worse tasting spicy tuna filling...eating to rid hunger and nothing more...feeling bit cheated out of $thirty-five for dinner for two...a sad chew and swallow...a lesson learned...
    I had tried this place years ago and was unimpressed but i decided to give it another try. We came in for lunch on a friday and got a seat at the bar with the intention of grabbing stuff as it floated by. This idea was abruptly ended after i tasted a spicy tuna roll that was less then fresh. I decided to order ala carte hoping that i was just unlucky with what i had grabbed off the boat. What i got was a poorly cut piece of fish wrapped in undercooked non sushi rice with a side of "you shoulda known better".
    I came here for the first time today and I ordered the dinner bento. You can choose one thing from each group (there are only 2 groups) I got salmon terriayki and CA roll. There were 2 salmon and it was of decent portion, so it was ok. The crab in the CA roll tastes kind of different than other places, but overall, it was still good. There was about 8 pieces too. The dressing in the salad was good, so was the Miso soup. What I didn't like was the portion of the rice. It was small, in a small section of the bento box and it didn't match with the portion of the salmon. I had to spend 1.95 to get another small bowl of rice just to finish the other whole piece of salmon. I also didn't like the price and thought it was expensive. Other restaurants give as much food for at least a couple bucks less. I dont think this place has what it takes to warrant a higher price and I probably wont come here ever again. There is no reason for me to spend more when I can get the same quality for less. The only thing we drank was water, my friend only ordered a dish of a type of sushi, but our bill was almost $40.
    I would never have patronized this recincarnation of Sushi lovers were it not for a client of mine's suggestion. (Customer's always right). Miso soup smells like a combo of Mr. Clean and Clorox bleach. My biggest mistake was to order chirashi sushi, boy am I a sucker for punishment. The fish was outright stale and whole bowl smelled like rotten fish (not the chinmi kind) mixed with bleach and Mr. Clean. I took a few bites just to be politically correct, but afterwards I can smell rotten fish from my own bad breath for a whole 8 hours. SOMEONE FROM THE HEALTH DEPT PLEASE SHUTDOWN THIS PLACE!
    They're super busy during lunchtime but they are able to seat parties and serve the food within five to ten minutes. The quality of the food is ok for a sushi place but I think they use MSG in the sukiyaki.
    My bf and I will usually end up here before a movie. Our favorite roll is the Daisy Roll. YUM! The waitresses are usually real nice to us and always makes sure that we're doing okay. If u want something real fulfilling I would definitely recommend a bento box. We usually end up sharing one. This place is alright if you're not straight up starving and you're waiting for your movie to start.
    So, I haven't been going here much but I did have the sushi and a bento box. No clue why everyone is giving this place a bad rating but it must be because nobody on here has had the Dynamite Roll which is freaking amazing. Other than that, the bento box wasn't so good. And I can relate to the people who have a hard time understanding the workers there as well. They aren't really so good in english and customer service just wasn't that great. If you want some good sushi, get the Dynamite Roll!! The girlfriend and I love it and probably the only place they have it is here.
    I am going to flat out say it--I don't really like this place. Whenever my roommate drags me over here (which, thankfully, has been nil times lately), she goes "lykomg lets go to yoyo sushi! yay!". My facial expressions alone should let her know how excited I am about going, but apparently she doesn't get sarcastic subtley very well. The only good thing about this place is their tempura sweet potato roll. I happen to LOVE vegetable tempura, so it being wrapped in a neat little roll is good for me. However, this...THING...is anything BUT little. It's humongous. It makes for awkward free-fall-from-your-mouth food situations. *note to self, don't bring a date here. I have enough problems keeping food on the plate itself* According to Ashley, though, their mussels and oysters are off the hook. I'm not a particularly huge fan of them, since her experience from eating an abundance of raw seafood only ended the night with me holding her hair back. Several times. The wait staff isn't the best, either. It's included in those little 2 stars I gave them. They're generally inattentive, and I can be impatient when I'm somewhere I don't want to be and I just want my check and leave. It's all a lose-lose situation. Not worth my money, not worth my time. Ashley's going to kill me when she reads this review (she loves this place). Look for hers, because no doubt she's going to mention how stupid I am. ^_^ (I don't want to kill the vibe by saying lol, but I feel like I have to just in case you have a perplexed expression on your face...lol)
    This place is a joke. The restaurant was pretty full, so I took it as a good sign that the place would at least be decent. Oh, what a cruel joke on me that turned out to be. Since I'm a sucker for sushi boat I asked to be seated at the bar. The hostess sat me way on the other side away from other bar dwellers, right next to where the sushi chefs drop off sushi for the tables. I sat down and was immediately asked what I wanted to drink. Good sign. And then I looked around. There were very few boats making their way around the bar and the ones that were had either zero sushi options available on them, or one that was terribly dry and old. I tried one spicy salmon roll and it tasted horrible. I finally ordered a negi hama from a waitress, after trying to get her attention for 20 minutes. I was there for an hour and I left hungry and $15 poorer. I really wish I'd gone to Tomatina instead.
    Came here for lunch with co-workers and I ordered the Dynamite roll and Fuji Volcano roll. The dynamite roll was pretty good. Couldn't really tell what was inside but on top they drenched it with some sort of spicy tuna mixture. The volcano roll was real good especially with the deep fried outside. Overall it was more or less average but it's tough to rate a restaurant when you're just trying a couple rolls. Service was good. Parking lot was packed when we were here at 12:30 on a Wednesday.
    Hit or Miss. This is my only option sometimes to eat sushi so I go here. Well pretty much when I need to watch a movie and feel like some sushi, I guess I am defaulted to go here. Sushi = ok not excellent Teriyaki meals = decent price, good portions I dont know what to tell you, its like going to a place to eat, no high expectations, you just eat, enjoy the fuzzy HD tv, and hurry your meal so you do not miss your movie at the amc20.
    Over-priced -- unappetizing -- not fresh. I can get better sushi at Trader Joes or Safeway. They obviously are cutting corners to pay for the high rent at this location. The fish is all pre-cut, and actually had hard edges. It wasn't buttery at all...try soft, squishy, no flavor. Disgusting actually. My brother is wondering if he is going to get tapeworm. The pricing is pretty bad as well. Not only not fresh...but high-priced for the pieces you get. So if you are trying to mix a sushi dinner and movie night together, drive to Mercado after you go to Under the Sea or Sushi O Sushi. This place is an absolute joke...and the service...even more laughable.
    I had been avoiding this place like the plague, but when we needed to grab a bite to eat before the YEE Ugly Truth screening this is where we chose. We wanted something light so we just ordered a couple rolls. The fried ebi roll (California roll with tempura shrimp) and the Rock and Roll (unagi and cucumber) were okay, but the spicy tuna was enough to make my stomach turn. My gut told me not to order raw fish, but I thought if it was spicy it'd be okay. It was not. I could barely choke it down. Even for a non-Japanese Japanese place, this place is not good. I definitely will not be back and next time I need a snack I'll hit up Starbucks or something else. Anything would be better.
    Sadly, it was only ok. Service was great but food was nothing special. we got the chicken udon soup which was fine but not memorable, a spider roll which was messy and not that good and a maui roll which was ok. probably wouldn't come back here.
    Went here on a date with my now fiance (aaahh memories. k don't barf, read on) and was impressed with the space of the place and the amount of big screen tvs they had. Looks like a good place to watch a baseball game during your lunch hour? PLENTY of sushi options. Gotta love variety. Sake Mojito? Coooool. And yummy Dragon roll wasnt aesthetically pleasing, but tasted good. Another roll (forgot the name, but had cream cheese) was good. Would have been better if the tobiko hadn't stuck in my teeth for days on end. Kinda crazy parking on a weekend, but a good place to try if you're waiting for your movie.
    First off, the service is not very swift here. It can get pretty busy around lunch, so do not expect refills or checking in to see if everything is good. The wait can be a little long also; so make sure you are not in a rush. The lunch bento is ok. A little slim on the sashimi, as you will only get 2 small cuts.
    Traveling on business, stopped in for dinner. Only so-so. I sat at the bar and grabbed items from the sushi boats passing by me. Avocado didn't look fresh. Maki rolls with the tempura shrimp - no crunch when biting into the tempura. Tasted decent but certainly not memorable. High note. . . very friendly waitress, frequent tea refills.
    All the times I've been to this place I have never had a problem with the food. I like the deep fried oysters, they're crunchy on the outside but have a nice texture and flavor when you bite into them. My favorite roll: RAINBOW ROLL!! ^_^ They don't really put California Rolls out on the boats. This place has sushi boats that go around and you pick what you want off the boats, they charge by the color of the plates and it can get expensive so keep track of your plates. The servers are nice; some can be a little snobby. All in all it's an ok place to go before or after a movie.
  • Jesse R.
    I wish I had read a few reviews before I came here. Not particularly bad, but just really unsatisfying. I've lived in Japan so I have a slightly refined sense of taste for sushi, but I'm pretty damn ghetto so most of the time I just ate at really cheap kaitenzushi places like Kappazushi. Stuff where you eat until you're full on just sushi alone and drop less than $20. So I'm not that much of a sushi snob, but like I said... pretty meh. I dunno, I might have to try some of their non-sushi menu... but I don't really feel like going back all that much.
    2.5 stars but this place has potential. My bf and I decided to eat here before catching a movie yesterday. This was our first time. From far, I wasn't sure if this sushi restaurant was high end or something since I can see they have a bar against the window. However, when we looked at the menu posted by the door, it was pretty reasaonable (I usually judge reasonable or not by the price of the spider roll. Here it was 7.95, spicy tuna roll 4.95). They had a variety of different rolls (volcano roll et all). I really like those kinds of rolls. We were seated immediately at the bar, but I couldn't help but notice the pieces of food (huge pieces of shrimp) under one of our chairs. I can't believe our host didn't see the pieces or may be he did and just dismissed it , so he didn't have to a get a broom or something. Who knows? How can anyone miss that? The pieces were huge! He could have offered to seat us somewhere else - there were lots of empty spaces at the sushi bar, but I guess he didn't want to bother. I must have looked disgusted so my boyfriend said he'd take that seat. He said he can kick the shrimp pieces over since he's wearing shoes and I was wearing flipflops. About 10 minutes in, a couple sat next to us - I wonder if they kicked the shrimp pieces over again. Upon sitting, I couldn't help but notice the green residue on the walls of the sushi boat area. Not to mention, the water looked dirty. I have been to countless sushi boat places and this is by far the least impressive one, to put it nicely. For instance, I saw things floating in it-there was a long strip of sushi seaweed wrapper that floated by a few times. Did I mention the plastic overhang wasn't clear? It was cloudy and scratched up, since I'm short, I didn't really effect me that much, but my boyfriend had some trouble getting a good look at the sushi. I couldn't help but notice that it wasn't clear. They should replace it. This is the first time and probably last time my bf and I will dine there unless they upgrade their sushi boat section. First time ever that our sushi bill was so small (less than $17). The sushi boat section just made the sushi less appealing. HOWEVER, I believe their sushi was good and the service (except for the gentleman who seated us) was attentive. I actually enjoyed the sushi we ordered -spicy tuna roll and salmon skin roll. We pulled unagi roll and spider roll from the boats. I can't help but think that if we were seated in the main dining area, my review would have been better. We probably would have ordered more. So yes, 2.5 stars with room for improvement....just don't sit at the sushi bar.
    of course the real reason i ever came here was because I had a movie showing at the AMC...and we were hungry before and in n out was not the answer. The boyfriend and I keep it very basic with sushi...none of that crazy raw stuff. If a place has good tempura shrimp and they can add cream cheese then that works just fine for us ;) . thats the type of roll that we'll end up getting.... it is a little pricey here...not much of selection of rolls that we prefer...i try not to eat too much from the boat cuz it does look like the same stuff keeps floatin by. we will sit at the bar to see what might come by, but in the end we order from the menu and our food always came fast....even during busy hours in the past. I am totally fine with getting 5 orders of one roll when i really love it!!LOL. I believe theirs is called "the bullet".... I just add cream cheese. ;) LOVE IT!! I dont care much for the other stuff on the menu . When i need my sushi fix of a shrimp tempura-creamcheese-avocado/spicy mayo topping and i'm going to watch a movie next door...perfect.
    The few acceptable things about my experience here: being seated promptly (because nobody was eating there to start with; maybe that was a sign), it's in a good location (yay, movies!) and the ice water I had was refreshing. Other than that, the waitress who gave us our wasabi/ginger had her thumb stewing in my ginger as she brought it over to the table. *ew x3*. the same, five $3.50 plates of sushi were row row row your boating around the bar. if there were enough customers, they wouldn't need the little plate covers to cover the sushi to begin with. or maybe serve some of the $2.50 plates? I like kappa maki, too! This place also charged an arm and a leg for the mediocre sushi I could've made for myself.
    Service: Don't come here if it's near closing time. My bf and I came in at 9:30PM on a Monday night (they closed at 10PM) before our movie. Our food came out quick which was a plus but they were in such a rush to have us leave. The waitress asked if we could pay since they were closing and we said sure- that wasn't a problem. However, she stood there waiting for us to provide her with our method of payment. A little uncomfortable. We give her the card and she returns shortly to have us sign the check. She actually didn't stand by our table this time but she came back 2 minutes later to pick it up. When my bf told her he hadn't signed it yet, she said "OK" and stood by our table again! I was so astonished at how we were being so rushed that all I could say was "OH MYY GODDDDDDDDDDDDD!" and I think she got the hint after that cause she left our table side. We were so uncomfortable and shocked that all we could do was laugh. Food: Soggy gyoza. My boyfriend's raw fish had a weird texture (beware)! Tonkatsu was pretty good and not too dry. Calamari salad was OK. All in all, I would not recommend this place. Food is just OK and service is... rushed.
    A group of four of us went here for dinner after a long day of training. It took a little while for our server to get to us. I ordered Miso soup, Edamame and then we ordered a lot of dishes to share: Dragon rolls, Spiders rolls, Rainbow rolls, and a variety of Nigiri: Scallops, Salmon, smoked Salmon, Yellowtail, and Mackerel. Once we ordered, the service was prompt and attentive. Everything except the Edamame was very good. The Edamame was not hot and lacked the proper amount of salt.
    This place has the most expensive bento box I've ever had for lunch. $11.50 and it didn't even come with any California rolls. I came here with my cousin because we wanted to grab something quick before our movie started, and this place seemed more appetizing than any of the other restaurants around. After we were seated at the sushi boat area and given our tea, we were asked to move by one of the servers because there was a family of four who also wanted to sit at the sushi boat. On the plus side, their menus are very colorful and have plenty of pictures. We thought ordering bento boxes would be easier. So I got the salmon teriyaki and tempura while my cousin got the chicken teriyaki and tempura. While we were waiting we were just watching the sushi boats go by. Interestingly my cousin pointed out that the boats were not connected by chains or ropes like at other sushi boat places. I noticed the dishes going around on the boat all had their own clear cover on them. My guess is they do that because it's cold and flu season right now. Hopefully not because the sushi on the boat goes around and around and never gets picked. Although they didn't seem to have much variety of sushi going around on the boat. From what I recall, prices start from $3.00 and then go up to $4.50 a plate. When I got my bento box I was slightly disappointed as I only had one thin salmon fillet and my cousin had a huge pile of chicken teriyaki in his bento box. The salmon was good though and they even kept a bit of the skin on the salmon too, which I like. The salad in the bento was overly drenched with dressing. They do give you a nice helping of rice and the tempura were huge! The miso soup tasted ok to me. I guess I've been too spoiled with the cheap sushi in south San Jose. No california rolls or a slice of orange in the bento and in my opinion too expensive for lunch.
    This place is terrible. Stale sushi, questionable cleanliness, and unfriendly staff make this establishment a sushi dining disaster for lunch or dinner. In addition to that they charge the same prices as good sushi restaurants! Pass.
    I FOUND HAIR IN MY DYNAMITE ROLL! i found hair in my dynamite roll yesterday. i'm not talking about eyebrow hair. i'm talking about 3 inch hair intricately woven along the outside the roll within the rice. i separated one roll from the others and thats when i saw that long hair. that sad part is... i used to love coming to this place. i've come here many many times in the past 4 years. there used to be great service. sometimes the rolls took forever. and the rolls were pretty decent and tasty. yesterday was a nightmare. the waitress was very nice about it, but i really lost my appetite. not that i'm ok if i found eyebrow hair in my food. but a long 3 inch hair is ridiculously noticeable and i almost threw up at the thought of eating someone's hair. now that i've found hair in my roll, i have to say: DO NOT EAT HERE
    All I can say is....What the hell was I thinking??!! I know YoYo Sushi is not a good place for Sushi....So why would I ever go there unless the food was cheap? The answer is...I wouldn't. Ron L., and I went here last Thursday and for the $80 it cost us to have a semi-decent meal, I would have been much much happier eating somewhere else.... There are not enough words to express the regret I have for choosing this place, and can only say that I'll avoid it like the plague from now on. $41 or $42 per person for sushi is not a problem if the sushi is good, but that price is totally unacceptable for sushi that is just "acceptable". May I never make a mistake this bad again.
    I like the one located in rivermark plaza better. But this place is not that bad. Kind of expensive though compared to other sushi places
    Went here for a date night with my husband last week and was really impressed. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the waitstaff were super friendly. The best part was that it wasn't astronomically expensive. We got the yo-yo sushi mix, two special rolls, along with hot sake and only spent like $60.
    I came here for dinner last night before a movie and I have to say that I wasn't impressed. I have a hard time going to places that have sushi boats because I am always concerned about the freshness of the sushi and this place epitomizes the reasons why I avoid boats. The sushi was old, the rice hard, and the fish was iffy. We ended up ordering "fresh" sushi which was passable but not good because we needed to eat quickly to make out flick. I wouldn't go back, but I didn't get sick so I guess in the end it was ok.
    Workers are nice but I do prefer the Yo Yo off RiverMark for some reason- it feels cleaner and the service is a little better too. A few of my friends have been sick from eating here and I got a stomach ache after eating some CA Rolls - I would still come back though but I wouldn't dare eat anything raw.
    Service, they pass in flying colours just fine. Food...seriously? How are the businesses still surviving? It's difficult for me to get "bleh" in my stomach, but that's because I have a good stomach. I can tell when my stomach has to put up with a good fight to digest the food. I can tell my stomach had to put up an effort at this restaurant. Not really a good sign. Perhaps, another place next time.
    Bleh....I hate it when sushi restaurants try to load the sushi with wasabi hoping that I'm not going to notice that their fish is not fresh and man on man is that what this place did! I got the ice mountain roll- spicy tuna, cucumber topped with crab meat. It sounds good but bleh the smell and taste of wasabi overwhelmed me and the roll did not sit well at all. The bomb roll on the other hand- hamachi, tuna , carrot and seaweed salad was ok. Definitely better than the other one. I've had the lunch special before and that isn't bad. I had the beef teriyaki and that was pretty decent. Can't say much about service since both time I ate here the we picked up the food and took it back to the office except the person on the phone took the order pretty quickly. Don't think I'd ever order rolls here again just cuz of the unfresh fish; however, if I'm absolutely craving japanese food and since this plac eis located so close to my work, I'd probably come here to pick up a lunch special which at $9.50, its average priced. Overall the place is not cheap and definitely not a place I'd go to have good sushi.
    OK sushi lunch at a strip mall. Nice looking place, except for the two boat bars - the boats are scary!!! Sidney C., Scott and I popped in for a quick bite. I got a bento box with teryaki chicken and agedashi tofu. The food arrived quickly. It was friendly food - the bonito strips were waving hello from the top of the tofu. They give a ton of food. The chicken was OK - a little gristly - with perfectly good teryaki sauce. The tofu was great. I did not like the way they charged extra for a soda refill, so I drank water. Glad I did not order sushi - Sid's was not bad-looking, but certainly not luscious either... BTW, what the heck is up with the "e" at the end of grill? Huh!?
    One of my favorite Sushi restaurants. The prices are fairly reasonable and I guess I keep coming back because of their Rock and Rolls and Crunch Rolly! But their Sunshine Rolls are the best! Love them!!
    Pretty good food, a little pricey but worth going back as I can't seem to find good sushi in Sunnyvale/Santa Clara.
    I definitely have had a whole lot better. The name of the rolls are familiar, but the taste isn't. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty good, but it's pricey!!! I rather go to Hon Sushi in Mountain View. It's so much better... and CHEAPER. I don't know if it's just me, but my rolls kept falling apart as I picked them up.. NOT COOL WHEN I'M DIPPING IT IN SOY SAUCE! I don't know.. I wasn't satisfied here.
    My hubba and I went here for a quick bite to eat before catching a movie at the nearby AMC theatre, more out of convenience than anything else. The service was actually a bit surprising, with 3 waiters circulating around our table just waiting for me to decide what I wanted to eat. Our tea was refilled constantly, so that was also a plus. We ordered 5 rolls - Oshinko (I love pickled radish), Rock n' Roll, a Rainbow Roll, Alaska Roll, and the Yo-Yo Nuggets (a spicy tuna roll that is deep fried and covered in spicy sauce). The sushi came so quickly that I almost thought they just grabbed it off of the line of boats. But despite that fact, the sushi was tasty and the fish was of good quality. The Rainbow Roll is our standby roll when visiting sushi restaurants so we can compare one place from the other. In terms of price, Yo Yo is reasonable at $9.95 for a Rainbow. I won't give it four stars because it was just average, but Yo Yo will definitely fill your sushi cravings if you're in the area or going to watch a movie. Other than that, fulfill your sashimi dreams elsewhere.
    Decent sushi. The four stars is for the Godzilla and Rainbow roll. Prices are higher than they should be, at least in my opinion. The caterpillar roll was alright. I think if I didn't get the Godzilla roll, I would give this place three stars.
    I will never eat hear again. I came here for lunch by myself and waited for at least thirty minutes for a waitress to take my order. Not only did they NOT try to even acknowledge my presence, they didn't even try to look at me when I tried flagging them down. I literally walked out. I've never walked out of a restaurant before because of this, but I honestly felt disregarded. I ate at in-N-out instead. I've never seen such a disorganized place. When you're at a restaurant, you have stations.. it's not supposed to be a free for all calling whoever to wait you. WORST place for sushi.
    It's one thing for the sushi boats to have no sushi on them, or limited choices. It's quite another to let almost all of the sushi dry out to the point where it clearly looks rock hard (both the rice and fish). Disgusting. There's simply no excuse for this.
    I work right down the street, so this is our default place among our coworkers. it's not the greatest, but it's convenient. I really like the udons and the sukiyaki because they come in huge bowls and can easily fill up 2 people. the sushis are ok. the only one i really like is the crunchy roll. other rolls you can skip. the service is a little rushed because they try to get people in and out quick. otherwise, they're fairly attentive. as long as i work right here, i'll be going back. otherwise, i wouldn't make a trip out.
    I had some time to waste for the day. Service was fast. I got the Bento Lunch Combo - Teriyaki Beef and a California roll. Also got a spicy California Roll. Food was great. Sushi was packed well and the taste was wonderful. Service staff was annoyingly helpful (like 4 people asked me what I wanted to drink), but at least it gave me great service. Would definitely recommend.
    I can't even begin to describe how nasty the sushi floating around the bar looked. The same unappetizing turds must have been circling around all week. Our waitress was also a major sourpuss - not one tiny smile or an ounce of positivity...plus she spilled miso soup on my lunch buddy and proceeded to throw some napkins at him for the mess without a genuine apology. When she gave us our change, we were handed two $1 bills and a $5. Guess what her tip was.
    The udon and seaweed salad are good. They seem to be understaffed for the lunch crowd. If you have time, it is a decent place to get a meal.
    Just ok. . I had lunch at this place this week, and was not blown away by any facet of this restaurants operation. The quality is 6 out of 10 because Japanese food is held on high regards. I got the standard bento box (salmon & tuna sashmi). The sashmi was not too fresh mainly because of the coloring it was like a faded reddish tint. Not what I expected from a Japanese place. Overall, a bit pricey because of the Rivermark neighborhood along with all the Silicon Valley companies around the area (SunMirco, Cisco, NVida)
    Place definitely puts the SHI.. in SUSHI. Went here after a movie and I was not impressed at all. Just another average sushi joint. - Blah flavor - Fish tasted a little old - Over-priced - Just wanted us in and out Spongebob has had better sushi from the In N Out across the street.
    Good food, fast sushi bar. My only complaint is the lack of English speaking employees. If you cant answer a basic question about your restaurant, you shouldn't work there.
    It's just an ok sushi place. Owner is Chinese. I asked for iced green tea and waitress told me they only have hot green tea. I replied saying I'll take hot green tea and a big glass of ice. She still did not get it and brought me just iced water. I then asked for hot tea and she brought hot tea. After the hot tea, I asked for glass of ice and she brought a glass of ice. I then pour the hot tea into a glass in front of her. Lord give me strength.
    Just had dinner here before a movie. Horrible sushi. Rice was not seasoned or vinegared correctly Tuna tasted stale Unagi was served COLD! Glad I got the water; $2 or so for a soda (no refills) Couldn't wait to leave after taking a few bites. This place was lucky I was starving.
